    Silver Dun or Silver Dunskin?

Again, I apologize for the poor quality of the picture and my poor little mans scruffy look but you can see a smutty buckskin and a bay pinto just behind him to compare him to which turned out nice. You can also see his chocolaty appearance where there should be black hair. Unfortunately, I...

    Silver Dun or Silver Dunskin?

Yes there is a dorsal stripe Can we please stick to a vote. That was all I asked for in my initial post. I truly wanted this to be a fun game and I will post the results when I get them.

    Silver Dun or Silver Dunskin?

Thank you Julie for keeping this fun and simple. It was never my intentions for this discussion to question anyone’s color genetic abilities. So let’s please not continue on with this for the sack of everyone. I really wanted it to be like a voting game, because as I said in my initial post, I...

    Silver Dun or Silver Dunskin?

I know my color genetics inside and out and have even considered doing my masters thesis on it. I have seen all of the dams foals and own two of them and I know the stallion they are all out of so I know that she is for sure a silver dunskin. Genetic testing can be bypassed in horses with...

    Silver Dun or Silver Dunskin?

Yes Mona, I actually wasn't sure about the silver until about a month ago when he was 2 months old. It is dark but for sure silver.

    Silver Dun or Silver Dunskin?

I know and understand my colors and genetics very very well but I wanted to see what you all think about my colt before I send in his hair for cream gene testing. I’m 100% sure he is dun and 100% sure his is silver but I’m not so sure if he is cream. His dam is a silver dunskin so there is a...

For those of you who did not think Einstein was a Dwarf

I was also not going to say anything, but after carefully reading this thread and doing my research on the stallion, I’m not too impressed. Weather he is a dwarf or not, he is a very poor example of our breed like many others have mentioned. When I see conformational issues on a horse that can...

    Thinking we have it backwards

I really love how hot this topic has become. I just hope that the new members are reading this so the can learn all they can on how to do things the correct way.

    Thinking we have it backwards

Very true! I would have never considered starting to line breed until after I posted this thread. Yes it needs to be done with caution but I think it is an amazing to when trying tool improve the breed.

    Thinking we have it backwards

Thanks for making this sound more simple What is your degree in Lewella I would love more insite?

    Thinking we have it backwards

Yes it is Laurie haha, hopefully some day someone with the time and money will try to catalog conformational genes so we don't have a crap shoot any more, but until then, I believe that this theory is the best to stick to in order to improve the breed. Maybe some of us who have had several...

    Thinking we have it backwards

Further more (like Charlotte said) breed the best stallion to an even better mare.

    Thinking we have it backwards

Yes, but that situation suggests quantity over quality unless all the mares were of equal to or better than the quality of the stallion.   And like I said before, variation is greater in the sperm than the ovum, so it really is starting to make little sense to me why people keep doing this.

    Thinking we have it backwards

The closer I get to finishing my pre vet degree and starting vet school, the more I start wondering why horse breeders put so much more time and attention into their stallions. We can see this in the show ring and even in the pictures that people post of facebook and websites. While it is very...

    Foaling and young/maiden mares

Interesting, what is the coarse number? I'm going to check with my school to see if this is an accredited class that will transfer sense I need it to finish my Bachelors next year. I would proceed with caution. I bred a mare once as a two year old and she foaled at three years old. Even...
