    Showing AMHA vs AMHR

You can start your own thread on it and/or feel free to send me a PM! I'd be more than happy to answer your questions on showing. Amha and Amhr have a lot of differences, the biggest one being height. Amha is for horses 34 and under, R also registers up to 38". There is a lot more than that...

    Obsidian's Prophecy (Sid)

@tashmahall It's complicated, but for the most part, youth can show stallions. In Amhr, they have junior stallion halter classes for youth 13 and over, no senior stallion classes though. The junior stallion class is also only held at Nationals. Stallions are not allowed in youth showmanship, but...

    Missouri

@Crimson Rose I can't answer for regular miniatures, but I know several breeders with Shetland Miniatures up there and I don't think they have any trouble with the grass as their breeding horses are pastured full time. It's hard to find the "bottom" on a Shetland. Plus if they are used to being...

    Crimson Rose Training Journal

I know that must be so hard and yet bittersweet that Ella has a forever retirement home. Will Bliss be alright by herself? If you need anything, even if it's just knowing that the right buyer will come along, feel free to get in touch! I am all too familiar with the many ways of butterfly buyers...

    ASPC Congress

Yes exactly! It also isn't proper etiquette to correct them in the ring. Some do figure out that you won't and decide to be jerks. But it can also be as simple as a stallion feeling frisky or a mare in heat. It's really something you don't have much control over. @Minimor I am interested in...

    ASPC Congress

@Standards Equine You should be able to skip ahead and see driving classes. If not, the last day was nearly all driving. Yes a lot of people are shocked when they see pony classes, but there are several factors that go into it. Firstly, a lot of the bad behavior this year was linked to swarms of...

    ASPC Congress

It ended on Saturday but you can go back and watch different days here. These are all ponies with a few Shetlands being also miniature size. https://rumble.com/c/ASPC The videos will not be on Youtube due to Copyright rules. Nationals will also be livestreamed via Rumble this year for the same...

    ASPC Congress

No, I am just enjoying looking at the depth of these classes as well as cheering on ponies belonging to good friends of mine and some of the relatives of my ponies! Sky's sire was undefeated through the Grand Championship again for the 2nd year in a row!

    ASPC Congress

It is halfway over, but I thought I would post a link to the livestream for ASPC Congress for anyone wanting to watch! The class list and entries are here. http://www.ponyshows.com/show/21 There is a new video link each day and you can also go back and rewatch previous days. Here is the...

    Plume

@Kelly the plumes are not cheap but you can buy them here. If you don't want the whole thing though, you can just buy the bridle attachment for $7.95. https://www.mydrafthorse.com/harness-and-suppliesdecorations-mane-tail-for-special-occasionsplumes-tassels/

Thoughts on AMHA/AMHR/ASPC/FMHA Miniatures Horses? Why?

It really depends on what your goals are. I don't have any experience with FMHA but from what I've seen they are more of the old style mini look. For me personally, I like to drive and I like refined, huge moving horses with typey heads and swan-like necks. The American Shetlands have that the...

    How's the Weather ?

We got hit hard by the storms that blew through on Sunday. 80mph straight line winds for a few minutes did a good job on the fences. All horses are safe though and we got power back just in time before the heat wave!

Who knows about showing foundation shetlands?

Foundations can show Classic as well so that is what you may be seeing. Foundation is sort of a subcategory of Classic though they cannot cross enter both at the same show! They just have to be Foundation sealed to show in the specific Foundation classes. And even though they may be foundation...

Who knows about showing foundation shetlands?

The main difference with showing Shetland vs AMHR is that, in addition to the trot by the judges on the way in, horses are called out of the lineup one by one to show on the rail at a trot in both directions. You are allowed to have a whip no longer than 4' and another handler in the ring with...

    Team Driving

It must have been some sort of a custom job because the shafts are obviously on one side so I don't think you could drive it with a single. I've also seen that sort of hitch in mule teams. I don't know much about the reasons behind work or plow hitches, but in carriage, three abreast is called...

    Team Driving

I feel like I've seen that somewhere before, maybe with plow horses. Yes, just looked it up! It is used by the Amish. With more weight behind it and only being used at a walk, I would say it's fairly safe. It's most commonly used in multiple work horse configurations like this. If you want to...

    Showing AMHA vs AMHR

@LostandFound Yes, that is correct. If you get a permanent card, you never measure again unless you are protested. If you do not have a permanent card, you must measure in at every show.
  19. Edelweiss

    Showing AMHA vs AMHR

Yes the measuring is different that way! At local shows, you do not have to re-measure if you are showing A&R, but you must re-measure for AMHA at every show, until your horse gets a permanent card which they can only do by being measured at a Regional show AND World in the same year.....once...

    Showing AMHA vs AMHR

@Kelly is correct! There are a few differences in those areas. For obstacle in AMHA, they must be 3yrs old vs AMHR where they can be yearlings. They only use the showmanship patterns that are listed in their rulebook and they do use the quarter system vs the half system that AMHR uses. And...
