    Hello from East Texas

Welcome and Congratulations!! I have seen that colt. He is a stunner! If you are going to be showing, you'll go far with him for sure!!

    Tell me about clippers

Yes, I keep mine at about 3rd speed, sometimes bump up to 4th if the coat is a bit thicker. My horses are always freshly bathed and scrubbed so the blades are never cutting through dirt. It's been two years and my blades are just now ready to be sharpened. When I had dairy goats, I had a Wahl...

    Tell me about clippers

I have the Andis 5 speed clippers and love them! They don't have any trouble with my Shetlands coats wet or dry. On the minis with really thick coats, they can't clip them very quickly when they are wet, but there is no problem when they are dry. They don't heat up or vibrate and are also fairly...

    Edelweiss Training Journal

You are welcome! @Willow Flats ! The less forward ones do take more patience overall, but they get there too. There is so much that goes into collection! It is one of my favorite things to work on. Of course I love everything! Hunter, jumper and obstacle are one of our main focuses and a lot...

    Edelweiss Training Journal

Thank you!! @Willow Flats He is 34". Yes, knowing dressage helps a lot! YES!! 100%! You cannot achieve true collection by cranking your horse's head into the proper position. That's why so many driving horses in the breed shows are hollow in the back and not truly working off their...

    Edelweiss Training Journal

@Willow Flats I love your pictures from them! There is so much to learn, but I am looking forward to attempting it. And thank you! That is what I strive for, except posture is the hardest to remember!! But I studied quite a bit of dressage before I got into minis and I try to incorporate that...

    Edelweiss Training Journal

I thought it would be fun to start a journal for my driving horses here, specifically our journey into CDE and Carriage! I think a few members on here do it, but for those who don't know, CDE is the driving version of 3 day eventing with driven dressage, a cross country marathon and timed cones...

    Teaching a side pass

I second Kelly on that. Her programs are no longer available to buy, but you can find some on youtube. To properly teach your horse a balanced sidepass, you need to already have control of their hindquarters and forequarters and a solid back. There are two ways to approach it depending on where...

    Showing geldings

Thank you! I enjoy them! Thank you! Yes! They are wonderful! I wish I had gotten him from them. He is kind of a Black Beauty come full circle, in more ways that one. Suffice to say he had a rough life before I got him. One of my special projects. I love him though, he is really a sweetheart.

    Showing geldings

Thank you! I'm not sure if I've ever posted them so you probably didn't. The bay is Rayvik Champ's Day Trooper, the dun is Alliance Boleros Tomas, the pinto is Silverleaf Little Rojo Amigo and I cannot remember what the dark bay's full name is. 😅

    Showing geldings

Geldings are THE Best!! I love my geldings!! I have way too many, lol. They are just too much fun and wonderful to train and work with!! Here are some of mine. And I just got a new one who I am very excited about because geldings are very addictive as well!

What do you think makes a show great?

Oh what a loaded question! Here are some of the things I look for when I'm considering a show. Of course distance and cost is a base to picking them out, but I think the first and most important thing that makes a show great is the exhibitors. Are they friendly, supportive, and enthusiastic...

Who all is expecting foals in 2023?

Not yet! He will have to hardship in 2024, unless his dam gets hardshipped before that, so I'll probably keep the foal until then so it can be A/R. He is actually a bit smaller than the palomino mare and she is 33.5!

Who all is expecting foals in 2023?

@elizabeth.conder Thank you!! It will be a small one. That foal will probably mature around 32", but I'm excited to see it! Also looking forward to seeing your Billy Idol foal!

Who all is expecting foals in 2023?

Only have one mare bred for next year right now, but I may have more! Hoping for April/May foals. First foals out of my 2xNatl Champion stallion so I'm looking forward to seeing them!

I need some show grooming product advice

Lucky you with no facials! Lol I'll PM you with some show pictures and explain how to shape it, but her mane appears to be too thick overall and it's hiding her neck.

I need some show grooming product advice

She is beautiful! Her legs look fine to me. What classes are you trying to win, color? It should not make a difference in halter. The main grooming things that make a difference there are bridle paths, mane shaping and facials.

I need some show grooming product advice

I have not seen that, but personally, I would not use it like that. That's too artificial for me, but I'm very minimal when it comes to dyes and other enhancements.. My bay is jet black simply because I keep him from being sun bleached. Pepi is not greasy in my experience, it leaves the horse's...

I need some show grooming product advice

When you say spray paint, are you talking about this? You are allowed to dye manes and tails as long as it is restoring the original color but I don't think you are allowed to do it on their actual coats. I have never even heard or seen the trainers doing that. I have used this to touch up tails...
