First steps(or should that be hoof prints?)

Ah yes, fine harness!! Which is wonderful if that's the type of driving you want to do! But it's a very different focus and technique than training for combined driving, marathon or even attelage. I have a Hackney pony I accidentally acquired from fine harness that I'm retraining for CDE...

First steps(or should that be hoof prints?)

I'm picturing in my mind that you might be at a "fine harness" type facility, not a place that specializes in combined driving, or horse driving trials-type sport. In which case, you're right, the breast collars are quite thin and (in my experience) unfortunately the actual mechanics of driving...

    Heloooo

Welcome to the forum, where are you from? We love to hear from new members too, no need to just lurk! 😄

    Do solid tires last?

Have you tried to slime your tires? I'd bought a bottle last fall and did all of mine and didn't have a single flat this year. Just two got low when the weather cooled down. Looks like you have a problem with seating on your rims. Perhaps your inner tubes need to be replaced?

First steps(or should that be hoof prints?)

Awesome place to start! Congratulations, I'm very excited to hear about the positive experience for you. When I have new people come to learn driving, I explain the harness is 3 pieces, each with 2 parts: Bridle and lines (reins), collar and traces, Backpad (saddle) and breeching. You might...

    Driving Discussion 2024

I went south for a couple of days to help my friend start his littles in cart. He's such a talented young trainer, and loves driving, but sometimes a person just needs a second set of hands to get things started. I was glad to be able to be that for him. I was only really there to offer my...

    2024 Hours Driven

Yesterday Jasmine went out for 45 minutes.

    Stallions in Ohio

I breed warmbloods but I adore standardbreds. I have a gelding, he's got more heart than any horse ought to. He'll stay with me for the rest of his life. While I breed, albeit on a very small scale, I would encourage you to buy a mini that's already on the ground. I'm not sure about your...

    Open shows in Ohio?

I googled American Miniature Horse and found this show schedule link: https://www.amha.org/show-schedules-info And you've got the World Equestrian Centre in Wilmington... got to be some fantastic shows there!

First steps(or should that be hoof prints?)

I'm excited for you! The beginning of such great adventures. If you need an enabler to help you get into things like trail driving or showing, I am more than happy to help!! xo

    Moving On

I'm so glad that they've gone to young drivers! The experience and wisdom in those pieces will guide the new drivers and animals in their careers. How beautiful of you to share. Sending big hugs.

    Tack Wanted

I'm assuming you're in the US. In Canada, we have Brubachers, Aaron Martin (both standard catalog but they're a step up from Ger-Ryan or Western Rawhide types) but better than that is Equi-Market who carries Countryside (Comfy Fit) or Equin-Star in Quebec who manufactures top of the line...

    Waves hello(before rambling on nervously)

Hi! Wow, you have a lot going on. Welcome to the forum. There's loads of good information around here so the search function will be your friend. There's even threads about van and utility trailer conversions specifically for use with little ones. Personally, I love driving. I have a mini...

    Driving Discussion 2024

And today my darling friend came out to drive with me. I love how far Falcor has come. He hasn’t been out to drive in weeks but came out today, did great and even finished with a walk down the road again.

    Driving Discussion 2024

We made it up the provincial AGM. Ali win jr highpoint champion with her Jasmine pony and accepted a ribbon as big as the pony!! I got my certificate for achieving my first 100 hours on the box seat, indeed well over 200 already.

    2024 Hours Driven

    How's the Weather ?

Oh my goodness I'm glad you are safe. That's so scary. It was a big year for wildfires again up here. However, it is part of nature rejuvenating. We've got a forecast for an inch of snow tomorrow. I hope it doesn't come because my daughter and I have a 2-hour drive south to our provincial...

@Marsha Cassada that's fantastic! I wish the conversion and shipping weren't so harsh to Canada or I'd buy one as well!

    2024 Hours Driven

@Cayuse glad you're able to get back into the forum. I hear what you're saying about the season not going to plan. But all things in their own time, I suppose. Can you tell me about online shows? I'm really curious.
