Nerve damage and muscle atrophy of forelimb and chest

I watched the videos. The palomino does look the worser of the two to me on the right front. Are you working with a vet? You could try a short course of banamine or maybe equioxx (works slower) if the vet agrees and see if they improve. If they improve from that then your answer would be it's...

    Billy

I'm quite familiar with the green slime too :D . Not looking forward to another one having to have a tooth out. It's stressful.

Nerve damage and muscle atrophy of forelimb and chest

Any chance the young one is the daughter of the older mare? I wonder if it's a congenital thing. Also, I have heard that an ill fitting driving collar (not breast plate, but a collar like work horses wear) can damage their shoulders. Are they able to move around ok or does it affect their...

    Billy

I think any kind of dental work bothers them more than we think. Peanut was sore after his float and the packing they put in his periodontal pocket and I gave him banamine. He also didn't make many piles yesterday so I gave him a mash with oil. This vet gave him both Ace and Dorm to sedate...

    Billy

Glad Billy is ok, peanut had a dental on the same day! He has a tooth that will need to come out at some point and I am dreading that. Cappy had his out in March, they had to go through the sinus to get it and Peanut's tooth is the same tooth. Dental problems are no fun to deal at all. Did...

This has got to be the darkest bay ever

Are his legs black at all? I wonder if his mane will come in flaxen and he'll be a liver chestnut with a light mane and tail. Or maybe he's a smokey black? I dunno! Whatever color he choses, he's going to be a nice one!

    liver help, please!

Blood tested all three and all were neg. My pony ended up having an ultrasound and a biopsy and they found a blocked bile duct. They think he had an infection in the liver and he had a long course of SMZ's, 8 weeks or so think.

    liver help, please!

I just looked it up, it is equine parvovirus. My pony ended up not having it, but all of mine were tested for it as it's fairly contagious according to my vet.

    liver help, please!

I'm sorry you are having to go through this mess. I have a pony with liver disease. When he was getting diagnosed, the vet mentioned that there is a newer virus out there that affects the liver. I believe it's a form of parvo virus. Has your vet looked into that?

    Wheee! Driving hours 2023

I ground drove Peanut 45 minutes this week. Dusted of my good harness and tried it on him and adjusted things. Hope to drive Monday. Going to a show this weekend so Monday will be the day, I think.

HELP! I have a decision to make.

I'd pass on the 2 YO. Might buy the 18 YO if it passed a thorough vet check including bloodwork to check for anything metabolic AND if he was ready to hitch and go with no work needed, but I probably would keep looking. My hesitancy with the 18 YO would be he is at the age metabolic issues show...

    Team Driving

The harness is intriguing. I wonder what it's made out of. Almost looks like they are bitless, but I can't make my mind up on that. Pretty sure bitless, though. Not sure what to think about it all!

    Driving Carts & CDE

I'll try to explain the shafts but pictures really help more than words with this I think, I'm not a good "explainer"! Straight shafts usually are used with a harness that has "wrap straps" that wrap around the shafts at the shaft carrier loop of the harness to hold the cart secure, IIRC curved...

    Driving Carts & CDE

I have a Kingston cart with the heavy wheels, motorcycle I think. My cart came with straight shafts which I prefer but I believe their carts can be ordered with curved shafts. This cart has proved to be a good cart for driving in my field and small shows. As far as harnesses go, I prefer...
