    Any hay savvy people?

Yes, you can tell from the seed heads. They look like the orchard grass heads we have here, but you probably have grasses we don't so it could be the same or something I've never seen before. I looked up sorghum heads and it's not that, but it says sorghum isn't safe for horses.

    Any hay savvy people?

Orchard grass? Not tall fescue, that is finer and longer off the stem. Though I thought if it's straw it shouldn't have seed heads, that looks like she is going to eat it. And it might not be good for her. When in doubt I bed her down in her hay. It's a waste of good hay, but if she eats it, it...

    Hoof abscess or laminitis?

Yes then, most of the time if your horse suddenly looks like it broke a leg it's an abscess. They are incredibly lame and it's super scary the first time you see it. Usually they burst out somewhere and the horse is just as suddenly almost totally better. Possible the rock caused the abscess, or...

    Hoof abscess or laminitis?

Yes, laminitis can spring up overnight. But I agree that it's not the most likely scenario to show up in one back leg only. That rock hole looks like it would make her uncomfortable, but I'm not sure that's your issue either. Abscess can present like that but it usually looks more like a broken...

Can you tell if a mare is delaying labor?

Also they scrunch up tight because you are looking at them. Sometimes they feel more prudish than others. I don't really think a maiden mare can stop labor very well. They have no idea what labor is. They know it hurts and instinct kicks in (hopefully) once the foal is born, but they think they...

How are you getting your show ring shine?

So what's a good technique for a hot oil treatment? I've never tried it, and I see a whole bunch of different stuff online. That healthy E looks interesting, it's just soybean oil, which seems like an odd choice, but I remember when corn oil was the top secret product so maybe not.

How are you getting your show ring shine?

My horses never seem as shiny as the rest of the show horses. I think they look great until I get to the shows and we are outshined. So help me out please. What are some good tips and tricks to really get that shine, particularly on a gray. I've found some things online, including olive oil, cod...

    Aggie Update!

I'm very glad for her! It's got to be a huge relief to have that pain and pressure in her head gone. She's lucky to have you, not everyone would have gone through this much to get her healthy. Or had access to a vet good enough to diagnose and fix something like that, even if they did take long...

    Encounter With A Porcupine

Oh no! That looks terribly painful. I've only seen a porcupine once in my life, I don't think they are common here. I would trust your vet on this one, if they haven't seen it before I'm sure they know another vet that has. Although dog snouts are the probably the most common place.

    Mini bitten

I'm a little late since it's already scabbed up, but my guess would have been that whatever it was itched and he rubbed it open. I'd probably put some kind of ointment on it and keep an eye out. But I don't think I'd call the vet unless it started to get worse.

working with Moon the new pony

Mini foals are sometimes full grown by their first year, so don't count on it being much smaller. I have a 10 month old colt right now and I usually say he is like having a bottle rocket tied to a lead rope. You have no real idea what direction he is going to move in, but it's likely to be fast...

    Discharge?

What I meant was that I know you can buy it for sheep and cattle.... so I'm assuming they also sell it for horses but I'm not totally sure. Actually, you might look into your local facebook groups or craigslist. Someone local might have some frozen that you can buy if you end up needing it.
