    Discharge?

I don't think you should give a foal ewe colostrum. At the very least I can't imagine it would help. Hopefully she starts bagging up and you don't need to worry.

    Discharge?

She really doesn't have much of a bag at all. If you haven't talked to your vet about it yet, now would be a good time. I'm not sure how it works with horses, but you can buy frozen colostrum for other animals, just in case she doesn't have milk when the foal is born. She could just have a while...

    Discharge?

Yes, they get just as miserable as people, if not more. There is a tiny horse kicking them from the inside. 🤣

    Sneezing

Wow. It was a valid question.

    Discharge?

So, as the baby moves around in there it kicks. It takes up space. It makes the mare very uncomfortable. They stretch, they bite at their belly, they roll and get up more than usual. You should expect to see a lot of that for a couple months before birth.

    Name suggestions!!

Ooh I like the idea of a nature smelling candle name.

    Name suggestions!!

Mini horse breeders often don't follow the idea of using the parent's names in the offspring. I think it's more common for each breeder to go with their own thing. I've seen a farm naming all the babies after celebrities, there is a farm that puts a certain word in most of the foals. Some farms...

    Discharge?

Hmm. I'm hoping someone else pipes in because I'm not sure. It doesn't quite look like a mucous plug to me. And it doesn't look like crusty pee. I've seen a little discharge from time to time and I'd be inclined to make sure it didn't smell rank, then ignore it.

    Discharge?

And you might as well share updated udder pics while you're at it. 🤣

    Discharge?

Are we talking a drip? Or just a little crusty redness? I would say post a pic.

    My Mini is really sick

That's got to be scary. I've never heard of tick fever, I don't think we have that here. But there are a few other things they can get from ticks including lyme's disease. I hope he starts feeling better soon.

Another round of foaling or fooling has begun

My mare went 362 days I think....so I know. I have more experience with solid broodmares and bigger horses, but I think the maidens are easier in some ways. The pre labor has been a lot more obvious and I could tell an hour or 2 before they went into labor that they were going to. Once they know...

Another round of foaling or fooling has begun

You are going to be tired of hearing about your pregnant mini before this is over. 🤣 This is all pretty normal for the last 2-3 months of pregnancy. She could go tomorrow....or she could have been bred at the end of her time with the stallion and go almost a full year.

    Help with itchy mare!

I had to google that, yes it says it's safe for pregnant mares. I've used it on pregnant mares, but never even wondered if it was safe. When they itch, I itch, so I will do pretty much anything to stop it. It google says not to use witch hazel anywhere it's open, but it might help in some spots.

    Help with itchy mare!

Poor girl! I have used freedom 45, which is a spot on fly treatment on both lice and mites. Along with ivermectin. It usually stops the itching pretty quickly. If she's scratching worse rather than less, I'd worry your treatment isn't working. Aside from that, I'd probably throw the barn at it...

    Hello! I'm new.

There is plenty of good driving advice to be found here, and if yours are trained to drive you may even be able to put them to work on your homestead. I want a tiny reel mower that a mini can pull. 🤣 Shelter depends alot on where you are and what you have. I'm in PA, and my guys have a bank...

    Returning member and mini owner

I didn't think bute was a good idea for minis in general, but I'm sure others know more about that than I do. We have used strictly banamine for pain. If you are worried about a dummy foal though, google squeeze for dummy foal. I haven't done it myself but it appears to work.

When does everyone put their cameras up?

Thank you! I know I will have a problem watching it non stop, but that's a price I'm willing to pay. 🤣 I don't mind the sleepless nights, but it would be nice not to have to run out to the barn constantly.
