    Some photos

I remember quite clearly, cautioning someone about positioning her head over a horse's head. But that was then ~ when I owned a quarter horse so nervous that this would be highly inadvisable. But now I own a Morgan which is gentle, mild and amenable, and I know better.

    Chewing Wood

My opinion on the topic of gnawing is possibly extreme: here it is: elephants in zoos rock, and horses in stables gnaw. Fleet prey animals like to keep an eye on the landscape while they eat for possibly 15 hours a day. Those who anthropomorphize their pets want them to feel secure in...

    Working at the Polls

I copied your note to a FB Horsey Playdays group I run in SW Oklahoma, Marsha. Thank you for your service!

    Acorns!

I have fed a smear (1/4 cup?) of cheap cornola or vegetable oil on two big scoops of sweet feed with an apple wafer ('horse candy') daily for years to a 14.5 hand horse. The initial impetus was to improve coat gloss - but honestly, I don't think it does. I am regarded as a person who spoils...

    Looking for new friend

I enjoyed making cheese from the goats milk that Melinda's dwarf Nigerians(?) provided. Her friend Donna was a former owner of the Morgan horse I now own. Brian W

    Looking for new friend

Hi Marsha & howdy neighbor - I am getting a distinct impression that minis are small, but have a major hoof growth rate. BTW, I visit, even ride my Morgan at Martha most days lately - in this gentle weather. Brian W

    Nipper Automation.

I am finding DIY hoof-trimming is getting to be a nuisance. I noticed a hydraulically actuated nipper; just the job for rock-hard, dry hooves? Then I saw the price...not good. Next I noticed an ad for garden shears, with a scimitar blade driven by a geared electric motor. I thought this might be...

    Curled hooves.

Wonderful! Another encouraging response. When & if I find another curly foot, I will try to be more conscious of the up side. Thank you Maryann.

    Curled hooves.

That was reassuring! Thank you Taz.

    Curled hooves.

In country districts, in view of the cost of radio dye injection and X-ray, I don't see this as a routine precaution. Which leaves a lower cost alternative; cut off half the excess hoof and inspect; then cut off half the remaining excess and recheck. Probably unrealistic, but I was hoping...

    Curled hooves.

I have been sad to see several miniature horses with grotesquely curled hooves which provided at best a halting gait; one was within my power to trim, but I was held back by reading that a plain cut through an extended hoof with e.g a sawzall could intercept an invasive blood vessel or - who...
