    2024 crafter's delight - whatcha working on?

Finished up a Christmas table topper, I had the top sewn before Christmas but didn't get it quilted until this year.

    Help with itchy mare!

Clipping with the hair, instead of against the hair. Clipping with the hair takes off less hair than clipping against it.

    Help with itchy mare!

What is her full complete diet? How long has she been itching this hard? What's your general location and are you unseasonably warm? How fuzzy is she? You might be able to relieve the itching with like a blanket clip or reverse clip leaving enough hair to keep her warm, but removing...

    2024 crafter's delight - whatcha working on?

I finished up a few small projects. Batik table runner, wild flower table topper (or throw, it's small 34" square), double-sided fall table runner, and a little trivet. [All available.]

    What clippers do you use??

The Clipmasters are big, noisy and a bit clumsy, but they really work for that first spring clip, when you might be clipping dirty. Pretty sure they are the same thing as the Sunbeam heavy duty livestock clippers; as I think the companies may have merged at one time; so you may find them...

    What clippers do you use??

I bought a set of Oster Clipmasters off eBay for dirty spring clips, they can really get through the woolie winter hair; then, also have a pair of Wahl KM-2 clippers for clean-up and more detailed clipping. I don't do that much clipping, since I don't show; just dirty spring clips sometimes if...

    Water troughs and heaters

I don't have power at my mini barn, so I've never used one, but they make heated buckets for water; so if you have power, this might be a solution, but they can't run dry as that increases fire risk. I think they make different sizes, just google heated buckets for livestock (or horses)...

    2024 crafter's delight - whatcha working on?

Timelines and quotas often diminish the fun, that's part of the reason, I do not do custom quilts. I make quilts I enjoy working on, and if one day someone likes them, I may part with them for a reasonable fee (mostly enough to buy fabric for the next project and get a little for my time).

    What to do?

Very true. I grieved deeply for my old man when I lost him at 27, but I had had him for 24 years; he was my first horse, and none have compared to him. But, there have been a couple others that were older, and I was not as affected as I am when young ones go.

    What to do?

This is so profound. I never really thought about it before, but I think I'm in the same boat as you. While I grieve for them all, it really knocks me down when I lose a young one and they take longer to get through.

    2024 crafter's delight - whatcha working on?

Housework can wait, "craft zone" keeps us happy. My housework always waits, and it shows. ;)

    2024 crafter's delight - whatcha working on?

Starting a new thread for the new year. Just barely starting a new pattern, trying a new block pattern, haven't decided how big I'm going to go, I've only made two blocks so far. The block is called Jacob's Ladder, this is the first time I've ever worked with this pattern.

    Quidding question

My senior with crappy teeth quids long-stem forage, mostly regular hay and fresh grass, but occasionally the chopped forage he gets. So far, he has never choked. the majority of his diet is soaked senior and hay pellets.

    A problem horse

How old? Is he the only equine she has? Gelding or intact? [Did she witness the gelding procedure, or did he come as a "gelding"? Might need to have him checked out (by a vet) and make sure someone didn't pull a fast one and only remove one, cause the other was retained, a retained...

    Vitamin and mineral brands

I've been using a ration balancer lately, but my high calcium, drought affected grass and grass mix hay was nicely balanced with MVP Mega Mag. As long as the balances are good and there isn't too much of the minerals that can potentially be toxic, such as Se, then I don't worry too much...

    Vitamins/supplements quantity for little ones

Lots of math. Most supplements are based on 1000-1100# full size horses. For small minis, 34" and under, I usually give 1/4 full-size supplement dose; for large minis, 34-38", I usually give 1/3 full-size dose; if the mini is really small like 30" and under, I give 1/5 dose. If there are...

What's your favorite way to determine how tall your foal will get?

Between parents heights doesn't always work with minis, as you have to check their background for heights as well (grands, greats, etc). I have one that is 36" tall, both parents were under 34" (sire was 29-30" tall). By the same token, one mare is exactly half way between parents at 33.5"...

Thank you. These fabrics, we'll 3 of them were from the dollar store, I was surprised to find something so cute.

    2023 crafting for all...

I think I can safely post these here, they are gifts for non-horse friends, so they shouldn't be on this group (and likely won't see them, unlike if I post on FB). A little group of mug rugs I made.
