    Back of the Moon's Antoinette

No registry activity--the mare has not been brought permanent and I think to transfer papers that would have to be done.

    Back to Bits again....

I am not sure a shorter browband will really help. This one does look took long, but with the cheeks shortened up so much there is not really enough room above the buckles for the browband/conchos to sit properly. Also, with everything else done up extra small, it leaves too much length in the...

    Back to Bits again....

Perhaps you could just buy a shorter throatlatch? I have one that is very short but it is brass and likely too narrow for your straps

    Unbelievable

I am sorry to hear this has happened to you. Do you have insurance on your car so that it can be replaced? If so, your insurance will likely go after the other drivers' insurance companies to cover the costs. Does your doctor believe the accident caused your heart arrhythmia? What has he done...

First time trailering? Loose or tied?

I would not tie--agree with what Chanda wrote above.

Registration of a mini based on height

AMHA does now accept minis based on size only. 34" at the last mane hair means your gelding can be hard shipped. There are fees--$300 plus DNA I think? Measuring has to be done at a show (I think--i am not an AMHA person so not up to date on the exact requirements). Once you have AMHA papers...

    Starting Shetland

Start her just as you have any others--longe lone, wear the harness, learn to carry the bit, then long lining, training shafts and then I produce the cart. Use a kicking strap; really, any horse should wear a kicking strap when starting to drive, as any horse can object to something and decide...

    No Hay in Indiana

I feed pound for pound. If I would feed 5.lbs of alfalfa, I feed 5 lbs of alfalfa cubes/pellets.

    Dual Registry Question

No. If the mare is AMHR only then the foam can be AMHR only, even if the sire is also AMHA. If the mare is 34" or smaller then you could hardship her into AMHA, then any foal you raise from a dual registered stallion would be eligible for both A and R

    Question on blinkers!

It is perfectly acceptable to drive in the open bridle. I do it all the time.

How do I stop my mini from biting??

To be honest, my mom would have smacked me upside the head--and rightfully so!--if I ever had tried to discipline a horse by squealing and kicking like a crabby old mare. The day I have to resort to that is the day I will give up horses completely. Yes it works for horses but they work with...

How do I stop my mini from biting??

What I do--and I am not a fan of yelling for something like biting, yelling is for when I am halfway across the pasture and someone is rubbing their butt on the fence--i wait for the horse to try to bite and be ready for it. Instead of biting me, the horse's muzzle connects with my knuckle. To...

    Looking For Action

We did not really breed but did raise one here and there for our own use. We had them for 46 years; usually only 4 or 5 but up to 11 at one point. We trail rode and drove and did some showing at the open shows and fairs, and when I was young enough, 4Has well (in QH country! QH kids and their...

    Looking For Action

He does not drive yet--i have not had time to work with him. I do not expect to have any trouble getting him going--i dont have a natural wood cart but he will look spiffy on the Frey or the Jerald. He and my youngest pinto mare will be the first two I start working this summer. He is a silver...

    Looking For Action

That's his name! Lol We call him Migo (shortened from the initial Amigo). He is a 4 year old ASPC gelding that was supposed to be AMHR as well, but he grew too tall even as a weanling.

Why measure to last mane hair?

Is she ever curly!! That is cool. Pretty girl!

Hard mass on side of mini’s face see pics

The only thing is, when they quid the hay in the cheek that way it usually means a problem with the teeth. Hay is not supposed to get wadded up like that. I would recommend that you get an equine dentist to check her mouth.

Hard mass on side of mini’s face see pics

That looks very much like a wad of hay quidded up in her cheek. You can try fishing with a finger between her cheek and her teeth--just be very careful as doing this can earn you a chomped finger. I will be very surprised if she does not have a bunch of hay stuffed up in there.

Why measure to last mane hair?

I do believe there have been people who did actually measure that way--by stretching the hair down the back and then measuring there...because it meant the horse measured smaller. However, that is not how it is meant to be done. That is just another trick to make the horse measure smaller. It...
