Calling all color experts!?! I need help identifying what color my guy is

Yep definitely silver buckskin, I should have looked closer, he looked clipped in one so I assumed he was in several, now that I blow them up on my computer I see he is not. Silly me.

What do you do to really know that your mare is in foal?

You can also do an external ultrasound. Blood tests are after 100 days. Easy and pretty accurate.

When to send my mini colt to a trainer? Round pen?

I would think he would be fine round penning. If you aren’t going to breed him, gelding may help you buy a bit of time if you feel you need to wait longer. You can definitely do groundwork and tricks. I wouldn’t do any riding or driving until he’s at least 3. But groundwork now will make it...

Any unclipped pictures? I am also in the silver buckskin boat.

Who all is expecting foals in 2023?

Still have some friends waiting on babies, but that doesn’t stop me from looking ahead to next year. Who is expecting babies? I’m hoping for 3! These are my hypothetical crosses. Haven’t confirmed any for sure yet though. Looking at March/April babies (I’m praying for that anyway!) I’d love to...

    Baby belly?

I could see her going either way. There’s a good chance she’s bred but I’d suspect if so she’s early on. It’s VERY possible the colt could have bred her as a yearling, but more likely for a 2 year old. She looks pleasantly plump to me. I’d recommend you get a fecal done before you deworm her...

    Mini Foal

I agree she needs an IgG ASAP. Hopefully it’s high enough but early intervention is crucial if it’s low. I highly recommend the love drug routine to get the mare to accept and care for her foal. A friend used it a couple days ago on a mare that was ready to kill her foal with incredible success...

Wow....okay I am sorry for trying to help. I wish you would stop reading into things because once again you made incorrect assumptions. I AM sorry you feel that way.

What would you call this coloring?

I am no expert lol. The issue guessing his color is the Appaloosa gene causes color shifting. So that makes it very hard. Do you have baby pictures?

What would you call this coloring?

He’s a unique one. I’m going silver bay Appaloosa. Possibly silver Smokey black appaloosa as well. I don’t see dun since the dorsal clipped off. Likely nd1. Likely carries frame or splash with those blue eyes.

What would you call this coloring?

Do you have any unclipped pictures? Clipping removes most of the colored part of the shaft.

    HELP IS THIS NORMAL!!!

Gotcha. So as I believe you know, all mares have plugs in their teats. It helps prevent infection. When they get closer to foaling they can get pushed out or they fall out. I’m not exactly sure why some are bigger than others. Could be genetics or just environment. A lot of times when it’s...

    HELP IS THIS NORMAL!!!

There is an endophyte fungus that is present in most fescue. If I bred mare eats it in the last trimester it can cause fescue toxicity. This can result in prolonged gestation, little to no udder development, and thickened amniotic sacs which make it very hard for the foal to break without help...

Congratulations! Happy Easter!!! What a pretty girl!

    HELP IS THIS NORMAL!!!

Gotcha. No it’s not common. It happens occasionally so you can’t rule it out, but it is not common. Many of the stories you see of it happening there is 12 hrs between checks. An udder can change a LOT in 12 hrs. So that results in many people missing it change. But it does happen on occasion...

    HELP IS THIS NORMAL!!!

You can buy them pretty much at any pool store and many supermarkets. I get them from Walmart. I know you said you removed the stallion May 30th, any chance they shared a fence? And they don’t have access to fescue correct? I did not realize they were a minimum of 320 days. I thought all your...

I GOTTA BE THE PERSON.. THOUGHTS??

Oh boy! That udder looks quite close. What is her milk like? Thickness, stickiness, color? Great example of an udders progression! I would guess not very long to wait. I think a really good chance for an Easter baby!
