    Showing 2024

Who all is planning on showing this year? I started my boys conditioning this week. I’d love to hear/follow y’all’s process particularly for AMHA/AMHR/ASPC rated shows. Haven’t decided for sure which shows I’ll go to but planning on working it to allow me to go worlds/nationals or MAYBE even both.

You definitely have my prayers. You’ve done all you can. And getting her to the vet asap is the best possible thing you can do.

What is a good age to start showing a foal???

May and June foals are tough to show. They are showing against foals that are often 4-6 months older and at that age, that is a huge gap. Personally my late foals don’t show till they are yearlings. Another option is to show online. There are some groups that allow you to show every month. They...

Unfortunately you cannot rely on an udder, even with seasoned mares. That’s what makes foalwatch so exhausting and hard, yet so rewarding. It’s a TON of work. But when you get that foal on the ground healthy it is ALL worth it. I do my best to monitor mine around the clock. I’ve seen mares do...

Anyone expecting a foal for 2024?

I have two babies coming Lord willing. The first is a mare I bought in foal. Really cute bay roan mare bred to a multi world reserve champion palomino homozygous tobiano stallion. Really want a filly and ideally buckskin roan tobiano if I’m being picky lol. She’s due in March. My most...

Labor will progress normally but instead of seeing the white amniotic sac, you will see a red bag with the placental star. You will cut that (carefully), and assist with the contractions. You don’t want to over assist because you risk injuring the mare. Pull with contractions down and out. You...

I think all your hard work is going to pay off! Remember 300 days is the safe date for minis and a good friend actually had a healthy filly at 297 a couple years ago. Way to go for babying her and going above and beyond. I don’t know if it’s been mentioned, but placentitis increases the risk for...

Thanks for the comments! I guess I’m back from a break. Thank you! She’s been a good little producer. Sold both of her babies as 2 year olds and both under 30”. The one I sold this year took a reserve world title this year! Lots of changes in my herd. I still have dice, Rythem, Belle, Izzy...

Unfortunately I lost Rythems baby this past week. I’ve had a really rough week. Can’t really talk about it right now. Thankfully Rythem is okay.

    HPR 2023 Foals!

Slow but steady progress. Ph still high but she’s looking closer for sure. Still need some work on the udder, otherwise I’d be on alert.

    How often are you checking?

I have a mare with a similar udder. At this point I am checking first thing in the morning, at lunch, at dinner, about 9/9:30, and 12/12:30. Looking for any big changes or anything that might indicate she might try to pull a fast one. I’m addition, I live stream my camera with Marewatchers so...

    Pregnant?

I agree, I think a foal will arrive before long! I second the use of ph strips, its a fantastic tool used correctly.

    Pregnant?

I agree the size and shape of the belly make me lean towards pregnancy. Could be a hay belly as well but I am more inclined to think she’s in foal. The udder may be starting or she may just have a fattier udder. I’d start by taking pics first thing in the morning and at night and see if there is...

    HPR 2023 Foals!

Thank y’all! Mom and baby are doing great! Rythem is the last mare up. If she holds true to form, we probably won’t have too long.
