    HPR 2023 Foals!

Yeah I only have 3 broodmares right now. I have a 3 year old mare but I’m going to show her at least one more year before breeding her. Then two yearling fillies. Ive got my herd about where I want it. Of course I’m always shopping lol. But for now I’m content. I’ll most likely keep the Billy...

    HPR 2023 Foals!

Hi everyone! Hope all is well. Figured I’d go ahead and share my thread. Got a bit longer to wait but a good way to start tracking progress. Izzy is first up (Firewaters Isidora Of Olympus) and she is bred to my stallion RHA Redis Loaded Dice. This is the mare that unfortunately delivered...

    Playful Nipping

I agree with what the others have said, playful nipping today may become something worse tomorrow if not addressed in a way that she understands and respects.

Why do 2 my horses have visable spine and hip bones...

What kind of grain are you feeding? generally when they are not wormy and getting fed enough yet are still ribby/hippy I find they need more protein.

    Foaling camera help

A friend of mine uses Arlo, but hers require WiFi. To be able to use an app and watch from anywhere you will likely need a system that requires wifi. There are some systems where you can pay a monthly fee for satellite service I think. I’ve never used them but heard good things about them...

    Foaling camera help

The site is currently down while they are updating it. It is very similar to the old mare stare. Kinda what people went to after mare stare closed. For me I bought an outdoor security system. Mine is hardwire to a big monitor and then I have the security system app to watch from anywhere as...

    Foaling camera help

It is actually very doable!!! I do it every year and at this point is a must for me. My good friend actually works with the tech for Marewatchers to help get cameras set up for people. If you are interested in possibly doing that I can get you connected to her!

Suggestions For Giving My Mini Medication

Something that’s worked for me is putting meds in soaked alfalfa cubes. Easy to mix in and hide and mine LOVE alfalfa. But mine are not picky so may not work for you.

Mini Mare holding onto foal WAY too long

Was she pasture bred or hand bred? Share a fence with the stallion? Mini stallion or mini jack? Share a fence with the sire? Any ungelded colts or geldings on the property? Was the foal confirmed alive at the time? With friends who have had their mares ultrasounded and checked for a due date...

    Anyone hardship AMHA lately?

Exactly. Too many stewards are allowing handlers to stretch and manipulate the horses in ways to get them under.

    Anyone hardship AMHA lately?

They allow you to set up your horse. In amha, horses are not shown parked, at least not usually. You can run your hand down the back to have them relax and straighten it. Because you are measuring to the last hair of the mane. If it changes it, it’s not much at all. The pinto in that pic is...

    Anyone hardship AMHA lately?

Oh I get it. But it’s the rules. Either get rid of the registry or stick to the rules because people will continue to push the rules. If you say oh, we can give them some leeway of an inch, well then people will push for 1.25” and then 1.5” etc. it’s the same for amhr and the 38” cutoff. Many...

    Anyone hardship AMHA lately?

They are given 3 chances to measure in because sometimes the horse is not relaxed and it affects it ability to measure correctly. I anticipate rules will change to enforce correct measuring, as they should. It is a height registry after all, and if they cannot measure in, they should not be...

    Anyone hardship AMHA lately?

Gotcha! By the rule book, there should be zero difference. Because the registered height is the actual height which is what they will show as. There has been a huge uproar lately with cheating during the measuring. The horse should be set square and not be manipulated to force a measure in. They...

    Anyone hardship AMHA lately?

They measure the same, to the last hair of the mane. You typically have to submit all the paperwork and blood testing prior to measuring so stewards don’t get caught measuring high amounts of ponies “just to see if they’ll measure in.” So that money is gone. If I remember right, you don’t have...

Is she pregnant and how far along would you say?

Usually a good theory, but I did have an unplanned foal in late November last year so don’t count on it lol. With how lopsided she is I’d feel pretty confident that she was in foal. I’d keep an eye on her udder development, how soft she is around her tail head, and belly changes. And make sure...

    confused

Has she had any foals before? Breeding through the fence is a total possibility. I do not like judging the gestation stage by belly size because I have had mares show a huge belly by 4 months and some that do not get a foal belly until 300 days. You might see if you can have your vet draw blood...
