I am working on shipping my mini gelding from US to Eastern Europe. Thus far, all my quotes are also in the $10k range as others have mentioned here also.

    Boarding single mini challenges?

My little guy also has fence-buddies on 3 sides (5 big trail horses, 3 mini-donkies, 2 mini horses). I didn't think about him already being used to fence-buddies. He does love to visit with them. (yep, the "big boys" reach over the top of the fence to visit LOL)

    Boarding single mini challenges?

It looks like we're going to be moving overseas next year. Of course, we HAVE to take our mini with us :) But, I'm concerned about how he'll do being a single horse herd after spending his whole life with at least one other horse. We'll be boarding him there, so there will be horses on...

Questions about treats for trick training?

Definitely research positive rewards training, especially combined with clicker training! I use both with great success. Once they learn a behavior, you can replace the treat reward with other rewards like praise, scratches, etc. You can also change the cue for any behavior after they learn it...

    Mini Dental Work

A horse is a horse, of course, of course.... :-) Size doesn't matter...so yes, even our little ones need their teeth checked and floated as needed. My vet check ours twice a year, and floats them as needed. And yes, she will use a mild sedative so she can get ensure a good, non-stressful floating!

Keeping my mini horse in shape.

Very cute indeed!!! 😍 We use the BCS weight standard. There is good overview here https://www.extension.iastate.edu/equine/body-condition-score With their woolies on, you have to really dig you fingers into all that fuzz to feel their ribs. But the neck crown is easy to watch for. Sounds...

Why do 2 my horses have visable spine and hip bones...

Also agreed about weighing your hay! I grow my own, and even then each bale is very different. I recently switched to the below spring scale and LOVE IT! works in all weather and doesn't need batteries! :) We use Hay Pillows for feeding both the minis and (our brand new mustang POA-sized...

Why do 2 my horses have visable spine and hip bones...

I have one that is the same. Has a hard time keeping good tone on his backstrap and hips. My vet has me give him a high protein (Purina Enrich) and high fat (Amplify) supplement, which I do after workouts and drives. On those days, he gets 100% of his normal hay ration, PLUS the protein/fat...

    Rope halters

I also have a couple of the Star Point rope halters and am very happy with them. I also like their mini lead ropes and training whips.

    Salt?

We have 3 different salt sources. More just for stimulatation variety. (all of these are shared with the goats) Standard cattle trace minerals block 2 buckets with granular trace minerals salt (they like this in the summer after exercising) 2 hanging natural salt rocks (these seem to be...

    Fly Spray Question

As others mentioned, consider getting fly predators. I use Spalding. Can take 2 years to have best impact. Then stay on schedule. Traps should be away from the animals in general, although I do both. I also use Spalding organic fly spray. They are the only organic spray that has had...

    Hoof boots

They should fit like your boots should fit. some play in them. You should be able to fairly easily slip the boot on and off and not need a hammer ;-) but too loose can cause serious problems also! The solution is actually really simple if the boots are slightly large. Put socks on them!!! :)...

    Hoof protection thoughts?

As others mentioned, I also use the Fusion Active Jogger (Equine Fusion Active Jogging Shoe – Chimacum Tack) I love them! both my boys drive, and of course they have different sized hoofs, so they each have their own set. I do boot all 4 hooves. our local roads are mix of dirt and gravel and...

    Pasture intake per hour

This is exactly what I did a few years ago to figure out how much turnout time they get. My boys are net fed when not turned out. Early spring and right now with the grass starting to brown up, they can only get about 1 - 1.5 hours turnout or they start getting chubby. In winter after the...

    Opinions on mini mule

Ever since I got our 'boys' (4.5 years ago now) I would just sit in the middle of their pen and be with them, scratch them, talk to them, etc. Now that we are all best buds... I go in, sit in my chair, and they both run over, turn the but to me for a good hard scratchin. The funny part is that...
