Pete and Turk playing in the snow...

Usually, when 'the boys' take off running and playing I'm too busy with chores and miss it. Or, by the time I pull my phone out to take a video, they stop and start grazing. But not this time!!! Hope you enjoy the beauty of minis running in the snow with their fashion blankets on :-)

    Hello from Moe and Harley

Hi @bkona76, Very sorry to hear about your tough times. These seem to hit us all at times through our lives. Where (in general) are you moving to here in Colorado? Colorado is definitely horse country, big and little! There are MANY horse boarding facilities everywhere, even within the...

Spinoff: what gender combos, if you have multiple horses?

I'll state what we have...but don't read anything into it! LOL It's simply because that's how we started... We have 2 geldings. They are half-brothers born 2 weeks apart. We got them when they were 6 mos old. I had them gelded later when the vet advised. they are just like human siblings...

    Blanketing Minis ❄️

Without a doubt, these 'little' guys are incredibly tough and hardy!!! Don't let their size deceive you :) Especially when they grow their 2" thick winter woolies!!! I love the cartoon from MiniMom...Spot on!!! I never used to blanket at all (and we get cold nights on Colorado prairie). But 2...

Could not have said it any better than that!!!!

Do you use Balls or toys?

Yep, the only one that plays with the jolly ball is the dog. Horses...never. But, the horses (both geldings) do like a couple old rubber wagon tires. they pick them up and carry them around and try to give them to you. And they like to kick beach balls around. I'm going to try a larger yoga...

    Best strap location for blanket?

Incredible artwork, and beyond cute little mini!!! :) The turnout blankets we use have criss-cross belly straps in addition to the breast closure and leg straps. My boys can roll in them and they stay put! So simple belly straps should work for yours. We're also in Colorado, Elizabeth area...

    Riding age?

A good general principle to follow: "a horse is a horse is a horse" Our minis may be over-the-top cute...but they are still horses! :) So, in general, we would follow the same practices as for the big boys. Specific to this question, a horse is considered a 'youth' until 2 to 2.5...

    Salutations from Alberta

WELCOME!!! When I got started I was petrified of the learning curve to get into driving. Don't be!!! Yes, there is much to learn, but if you are horse saavy already, it won't take you or your horses long to learn :)

    Beginner's Questions

I would agree with all the advice above. I'm enchanted with the van conversions that folks here have done :) . They all look totally cool! We have 2 Minis. We found a 90's used 2-horse slant trailer in the local market that needed new wiring, lights, and some paint. But got it at a great...

    Some photos

We both drive and walk in the parades...depending. I like them both. We always get several young girls scream and run out and give the boys hugs!!! (my boys are excellent with kids and sudden hugs) Be prepared :)

    Buying a harness?

When I first started, I just bought an inexpensive surcingle and long lines, then just used the halter. The first step is just getting the horse used to being IN FRONT of you and following your signals. You can find mini-sized surcingles online from minitack.com, tough-1, and others. If you...

    Comfy Fit in Dishwasher

I heard that you have to put a fish in with the harness to get is truly clean! ;) I would think it would be possible, but you may not want to use dishwasher soap / tablets. They may be too caustic. I would use a milk soap. I like the idea of just using the shower. Closer to my summer approach...

    9.3 pony questions!

The rule is that an animal can carry 20% of its body weight on its back. A 200# mini (like my boys) would be a max of ~40# A 350# pony would be ~70# If you are 90#, that would be too much for small pony. You would probably need maybe a large pony or small horse (like mustang size) around 12-13...

    Confirmation critique

I think she's beautiful !!! But I don't know anything about 'formal' show criteria. I also have her exact twin gelding, I might be bias :)
