    Stupid saddle!

It is definitely hard to get good saddles for the minis. The #8 saddles tend to fit a little better, but then the saddle is too small for most kids. The #10's tend to cover their entire backs...But that's the nature of the beast. Finding a saddle with a tree that fits is the hardest part unless...

Here in Colorado, we are having a major outbreak of wild Rabbit Hemorrhagic Disease that has been crossing into the domestic population...So at this year's fairs (which we also ALWAYS go to with our minis being a hit in the parade each year) all the bunnies were sequestered and none were allowed...

    How much grain to feed?

As @Kelly stated....Most minis turn into round rolly-pollies with that much pasture. How do you keep their condition around 5.5 with that much pasture? We are in the plains of Colorado. We have 8 ac of pasture that we Hay. Once the hay is brought in...my boys get around 1.5 hours of pasture...

Do you keep your show minis in shape over the winter?

My vet yells at me if they get over #6 :) We have a fair amount of snow with some cold spells. But they get turned out to pasture almost daily in the Winter. We do let them get a little on the heavy side for winter, but really try to keep them within the upper range of 'normal' They take it...

The two most common things we hear when taking our boys for a walk around our neighborhood.... 1) Can we come pet them? 2) OMG, I can't believe they give kisses!!! (after we have the boys give them a kiss)

    GREAT Sayings

We were doing a small local trick and behavior show....One of the spectators comes up and says: "What are you going to do with those things. They can't do anything!" (We were the only minis...The rest were 'big horses') He didn't realize that my boys were the stars of the show for half of the...

    Spring grazing advice

My boys HATE the grazing muzzle. But oh-well, too-bad :-) They get used to it after a few days... I'm pretty sure I bought Touch1 brand a couple years ago when I bought them. I had to use the last holes for all the straps, but in the end got it to fit correctly. Our problem is that with the...

Breaking large minis for small children to ride

As with any riding animal, it's not about how tall they are, it's about their overall size. As a general rule, they can carry 20% of their body weight. So more a good size mini, a 40# - 50# child on saddle is likely not a problem. I saddle break all my minis, even if they never carry a child...

How much hay should be reduced for each hour of turnout time?

I like to turn the minis out a lot this time of year now that the hay has browned and the sugar content is low. but how much baled hay should I reduce for each hour they are turned out. Note that they are turned out into the same area where we harvest the hay from, so it is effectively the...
