    Chewing on stump

Do you know what the tree was? Certain tress have "medicinal" qualities that the animals seek out. Sometimes it's boredom, and maybe it just tastes good to them.

    What is causing Diarrhea?

If you have a stethoscope, I would listen to their gut. You listen on the bottom, just behind their navel. Move it around a little. You will be listening for a shwoosh type noise, like the waves running over the beach. My thoughts are that perhaps they are consuming sand, trying to get the...

    Fun with the boys!

Finally got to drive my boys as a pair to their competition carriage the other day for the first time in a year! I was working on a video on pairs driving (had the camera malfunction, so no video, I'll have to redo it). And then decided to have some fun. I worked them around the barrels and...

    Grooming question

I use to save bacon grease to use on pine pitch when we lived up north. It worked very well to get rid of that sticky stuff. Rub it in and let it sit, then wash it out.

    Feeding alfalfa

Yes, that is all I feed.

    Feeding alfalfa

There are a lot of variables. I've fed alfalfa almost exclusively for 40+ years and have never had any issues. However I have a friend that had fed alfalfa exclusively to his herd and had 1 mare that would get enteroliths. Just the 1 out of his whole herd. Why? Even his vet didn't know why.

    Too fat on basically air?!?

They way it was worded, sounded like you were doing 3# twice a day. 😁

    Too fat on basically air?!?

That totals 10 plus pounds per day of feed. They only need 1.5-2% of their body weight per day. So at the upper end 6# and 5#. I would slowly cut back on the weight of feed per day. They will hate you at first, but will be so much healthier in the long run. 😊

    Too fat on basically air?!?

You will find if you cut out the extra feed, he will lose weight. I agree, determine what his optimal weight should be and weigh every bit of feed that he gets. Once he loses the excess weight he will be happier and healthier and it will greatly reduced his chances of getting laminitis.

    Pair leaning in opposite directions.

There are several things that can cause this issue. Rein adjustment is the first thing I would check. Sometimes if your cross check rein isn't right, it'll create tension between the horses. Our first thought is to tighten those reins to "bring" the horses together, but it just creates more of...

    Back leg joint sticking

I would be cautious of Estrogen injections if the horse is a stallion. Had a friend that had the sweetest Colt get locking stifle. The vet did the estrogen shot into the stifle. A week later the stifle was perfect, but her sweet little guy had turned into Satan's he**hound!

    Smoke gets in your eyes....

I removed a bean from a friend's gelding once. It had never been done before. He wouldn't put his ***** back in one day while I was there. It took a good 10 minutes to work that large, rock hard bean out. But it was more like a walnut!

    Pony Express - van conversion

I have the ultimate cart carrier for my van! It's an electronic scooter carrier! I never even thought about one of those till I seen one on marketplace. I've used it twice now and absolutely LOVE it! It swings out to the side so that you can load the carrier up then load the horses. Then...

    Tandem

Thank you! Unfortunately, no photos or videos. I was by myself and everyone else was busy with their own horses. ☹️

    Tandem

We had such a good time at an open driving show this weekend. I drive the boys tandem and was so glad that I did. I was able to put my leader into draft to help pull the cart through the sand during the cones class! It was the only reason we were able to get through the entire cones classes...

    Poo Poo Crazy

I highly recommend the book Driving a Tandem. They're hard to find, however very worth every penny.
