    Hitching help... Again...

The purpose of the neck yoke is to keep the harness/horses aligned. Many poopoo this, but in my experience, that is what it does .you can use a neck yoke with either type of collar. Splinter bar will also keep the horses from one getting ahead of the other. Using a double tree can allow that...

    Longboarding with a mini

My latest outing on the longboard. It was absolutely beautiful here today. The high was 68°! I had a punctured tire one day last week, and then a complete blowout on another the next day. I was finally able to get three new wheels, so sould be set for the next couple years. I hope! My...

What do you do at the draft horse show?

Gambler's choice is an obstacle class where each obstacle has a point value. Rules vary at each show, but this one was you could do each obstacle twice but not back to back. They had a three minute time limit that you could do as many obstacles as you can. If you are successful you get the...

    Hitching help...

If you're just going a few laps in the show ring with a light carriage, breast collars are fine. But if you are planning on going off road, hilly or long work, breast collars can create sore shoulders with the splinter bar. The line of draft is probably good for breast collars (guessing from...

    Hitching help...

Here's a simple drawing. I have a book with photos, but won't have access till I get home from work. It looks like that's a solid "splinter bar". You will need to use neck collars/hames with that type of setup if it is.

Those look like roller bolt type connectors. They take a special type of trace end.

    Four in Hand of Appaloosas!

The current 4 are not related. The four from last year had a mother/son. I've aquired the horses over the last few years.

    Four in Hand of Appaloosas!

I so enjoy my teams! They have brought so much joy and lately they've helped my recovery by making me focus. My lead pair has a new member. I purchased him last year as a backup and have been working him as a single with the end goal of him being the backup/replacement of my oldest team member...

    Driving style questions

I Am Ranch has some great educational information on driving. In both AMHA & AMHR you may not cross enter in the driving classes. So if you show in Country Western pleasure classes, you cannot show in country pleasure driving at that show. Both registries have descriptions of what is...

    Longboarding with a mini

I know it's been a while since I posted about my boarding adventures. I've gotten a longer longboard, it's now 57"! I've ridden it once so far and although it doesn't corner as sharp as the 38" board, it's a lot Morse stable. Here's a clip of my trial run!

Critique my set up. Proper fitting not show.

You just need to change the snap so the the opening is near the horse. So just turn it 180°. You will probably have to reattach the holdbacks to do that.

Critique my set up. Proper fitting not show.

The openings should be against the horse to prevent something from getting accidentally snapped into them. (Anything is possible with horses).

Critique my set up. Proper fitting not show.

One thing I would change for safety is you holdback straps. The snap should face the horse, not away. When they face away from the horse they could become snapped to something else and create a wreck. You also need either wrap straps at your girth to hold your shafts down. Without the wrap...
