Raising a foal the first week

Here's another baby behavior I hadn't experienced until last evening....Going UNDER you, between the legs. I'm short so this wasn't much fun. Jasper tried this while I was talking to someone and almost toppled me over...goofy boy! Won't want to encourage this game because he's going to get...

    My Mare is Possibly Pregnant.

She's been letting me get udder pictures at times. Depends on her mood! I'll be out there in a bit here and see where she's at. I sure hope her disposition gets better after the foaling (Snickers is so much sweeter now!). I don't blame them. I was a bit cranky too at the end of my pregnancies...

    My Mare is Possibly Pregnant.

Previous owner said she had a colt just before I got her a little over a year ago. Said she can't remember. It sounds like they don't do much but wait to see a baby on the ground. So no idea how she develops. I think there is some time but fairly close. Things are softening and relaxing...

    Consuelo foal watch

Your girl looks at about the same stage as mine (I think). Just realized a couple of weeks ago and I've had her over a year! But then again I have a stallion in my little herd (not for long, the little guy gets cut on the !st!). Pretty sure mine still has some time yet, but not taking...

    Waiting on this foal!

Congratulations!! He is adorable! Does he have a name yet?

    Monty and Baron

    Very handsome boys!

    pregnant? or fat?

Can you get a photo of her at her level, behind about 5 ft (or more if you can enlarge the photo). Maybe a late August or September baby? I think I heard somewhere that they may be pregnant for a month or so longer than a horse (but don't quote me on that!). We just had our first foal in April...

    My Mare is Possibly Pregnant.

Any opinions on much longer? She's stalled alone at night. Getting cameras up soon (I hope! I love being dependent on teenagers!)

    My Mare is Possibly Pregnant.

Now I have a "surprise" baby due soon I think. Pepper became enormous from feeding round bales. Cut her back with nets and suddenly she went from very obese to this.......

    Raising a Colt

Sorry been off for so long. Too much going on! Jasper is coming along nicely and I don't think I've ever been more in love! If I ask him, "Where's my kiss?" he puts his nose in the air and waits. He usually wants three kisses in a row. Goofy guy! He is leading pretty well now and I am using our...

I hate being that person... But.... What do you think

Oh my goodness! Look at those babies! Looks like one happy mama too! We had a Great Pyr that we got when she was 8 years old (very old for the breed) and spent her life in a cage, not potty trained. Brought her home, learned to potty outside with the other dogs in one day (thank goodness!). She...

    Pregnant Mini Mare

She looks pretty bagged up to me. I'd keep a close eye on her! ;)

    Chickens

Yep...and all the good stuff too! I do love my chickens even with all the mess. They are pretty funny much of the time. When kids were little and we had about 40 chickens, they often followed kids to the bus stop! It was pretty funny but I had to gather them up and shoo them back home. They...

    Halters

I have regular halters and rope halters. The nice thing about the rope halters is you can usually adjust fit better, they are usually lighter on the animal's face, and of course there is a bit more control. You can even make them yourself (UTube and Etsy have videos and how to information) so...

Could I get some opinions please

Oh Taz, I'm sorry. I hope there is some resolution soon for your sake (and Izzy's). Wish we could help watch your cameras so you can get some much needed rest! You have been so great when I was waiting for Jasper to make his appearance. Couldn't have done it safely without you! Hang in there and...

    Foal Stealing

As soon as I can get something that's not just a blur or only his nose as he is so curious!

    Chickens

So, I can tell you that animal for animal, chickens are higher maintenance than the horses if you do it right....My kids all did chickens in 4-H. Would you believe it took each child 5 times more time and work for a cage of five laying hens than it did for my daughter to show her dog in agility...

    Foal Stealing

Would you believe I had just taken it down?! OMGosh......they were doing so well and everyone seemed happy for several days, then BAM, back to stealing Jasper. Popular little guy I guess! Patches will run through anything or over anybody if she gets spooked or scared, unfortunately. Working on...

I hate being that person... But.... What do you think

So I don't know much. Just had first foal this spring and probably drove everyone nuts here. To me, it looks like you better get them used to the barn pretty soon...Just a gut feeling looking at those pics but I don't think you will have very long to wait for two little ones. My mare looks like...
