    Mini bitten

Unfortunately in southern California venomous spiders are common. I'll see him this afternoon and if its worsened I'm letting the vet know.

    Mini bitten

Hello everyone, This one's a little urgent. Yesterday Winston had a little bump on his lip and I assumed he was just stung by a bee or maybe bit by an ant. Today however the bump is showing exposed tissue and oozing blood. No fever. He's interested in his food and is his usual friendly self. Is...

    "safe date" is 300 days?

My neighbor's arabian was asleep 5 minutes before her water broke. I had almost dosed off but heard it happen! They try to fool us!

    "safe date" is 300 days?

I've seen foals come out recognizing my voice. It's pretty amazing how they can remember your voice even before they're born. It would be so nice if mares could politely wait, tell us "okay, baby is coming now" and let you grab coffee, your foaling kit and your phone to watch the whole thing...

    "safe date" is 300 days?

Watching baby get into position is one of the trippiest things I've seen. She definitely looks like she's getting there! I believe 300 days is considered safe for most minis. Most people I've talked to say their mares are safe after 300 days. I'm not an expert though. Belly isn't exactly V...

    Prego Watch!

The winter fuzzies are always cute! I love Tilly's coloring. As for the nail test I've never tried it. Dying to have a mini foal of my own one day! Good luck with your two girls!

    2 Years with Aggie

Two years ago today, out on a whim, I went out to see a mini mare that a rescue said needed a new home. She was timid, wanted nothing to do with me, but everyone told me she was a sweet mare. How little I knew 2 years later she'd be the sweetest little girl. She still has obstacles to overcome...

    Locked Stifle out of nowhere

No stifle issues today. Went on the trail and she was bouncing right along at a trot. Thank you everyone for your advice and input. --Noah

    Locked Stifle out of nowhere

Hello Everyone, I unfortunately bring more bad news about Aggie. This morning her stifle was locked and it took several backing attempts to unlock it. This was when she woke up from a standing nap. Her stifle has never locked before and she has never had any joint issues until now. After moving...

Items for keeping minis on your property for the first time

Thank you! I appreciate all the great advice from you and everyone else! To answer the question, yes horses have been on the property, but they are poorly cared for and the ground is full of gopher holes, weeds, etc. The land used to be a farm but hasn't had people regularly living on it in...

Items for keeping minis on your property for the first time

We do have power, however there's only a handful of scattered outlets on the property.

Items for keeping minis on your property for the first time

I'll look into a quarantine stall/shelter, thanks! I currently have to make a 30-40 minute round trip twice a day through Los Angeles area traffic to see them and I absolutely loathe it. I can't wait to look outside and see them enjoying their own space and not having to deal with random...

Items for keeping minis on your property for the first time

Thank you for the advice! Snow won't be an issue but rain definitely will be. Central coast CA gets wet winters with tons of mud. My minis like their pellets but they're staying a good weight on hay alone so for now they just get pellets for their vitamins and supplements. Manure management...

Items for keeping minis on your property for the first time

Hey everyone, As the title suggests, I will shortly be moving my minis out of the boarding facility and to our property in SLO County. So far on my mental list of things to prepare the property is have a section of grass cleared where they will stay, the fencing to make their enclosure, a...

    Aggie Update

Thank you so much. I had been chasing the issue since I got her, so over 1½ years. It means the world to me to see her so happy. Best of luck with your little one. I agree people claim they hide the pain, but if you listen to them you can see when they're telling you.

    Aggie Update

Aggie is the biggest little diva, and she knows it. She flirts with any gelding willing to give her attention. So far she's 'claimed' her 17 hand jumper neighbor, a BLM Mustang who is now the sweetest boy, and a little burro. She flirts with them all without shame.😂
