    Colour and testing question

Your adorable child does NOT look Bay, but Buckskin! And with what you describe the parents to be (can SEE the mum), it makes perfect sense. In Layman's terms.... Buckskin shows the dilute (palomino), the black, and the agouti (bay) genes.

    Van conversion for mini's

My mini van was also a Mercury Villager! I agree that the bars aren't really necessary. But the picture sure is nice.

    Pony Express - van conversion

Someone else just started a post about this very thing! She entitled it "Van Conversion for Minis".

    Van conversion for mini's

Welcome! And YES people do it all the time. You can use a regular size van or even a mini van (for minis! haha) We used to use my mini van for transporting one or two. The back seats were easy to remove. Then, we'd put down a small tarp and a light weight rubber mat on top....the type that...

    Water in the winter

We have a "frost free" hydrant inside the barn. The trick is to make sure the piping to it and IT are buried below the frost line. The previous owners didn't understand that, so we had to re-do a lot. We have trough heaters connected to heavy duty extension cords off the barn. And filling the...

    Donkey encounter

That what I thought! Thanks, Abby P. But when I did a search about Donkey Heights, all I got were the two sizes.

    Donkey encounter

Now this is something to do a "search" about..... I know that there are 3 donkey sizes....sort of like equine, but not sure of the height break-offs. CORRECTION: I just did a search and technically there are only TWO sizes. The Mammoth averages around 14 hands and the "mini donkey" or Burro...

Opinions on if my mare is pregnant is appreciated

Animals tend to be more sensitive (especially with smell) when there's a change. So, that kind of makes sense (pardon the pun). Like Taz said, when the bag stops going up and down in fullness and just stays full, is one more sign for you to be on alert.

    Weird Question~ Dog vs Mini

I know a gal up in Maine who has a team of Mushing (Sled) Dogs! In the off season she would keep them in shape using some kind of team cart on wheels.

Kandy due soon, need help determining when!

I HATE maiden mares!!!! You can't count on "the book". She may or may not give you a full bag prior. However if you can get ANY liquid it would be wonderful. And having some Ph test strips (available at a pool/hot spa store or Walmart) would be nice. Otherwise, just check how sticky the...

    Weird Question~ Dog vs Mini

Find this topic interesting........The things that stand out for me is the initial purchase price may be close between a mini and purebred large dog, but then there is the life span difference to consider......Large dogs MAY live for 10 years, but won't be able to pull a cart for all that...

    How's the Weather ?

Central Oregon was actually slightly milder last winter. We only had a couple weeks of single digit temps F. Everyone kept expecting a second cold spell. Spring so far has been mild. I pay attention to the birds and they all started migrating in a few weeks early.

    Breeding?

If you REALLY like the stallion that's for sale, perhaps the owner would be willing to offer a stud service to you? One word of caution, though. If the owner provides any guarantees for the stud service, those guarantees may not necessarily go along to a new owner, if he is sold later on down...

    My Mare is Possibly Pregnant.

Pitter Patter, what part of Michigan is Kingsley? My oldest grown foster daughter lives in Iron Mountain. She's been here in Oregon visiting and just flew back this morning. Need to add..... She's leaving wonderful Spring weather (today it's supposed to be 70F.) and Iron Mt. has been getting...

Where do you go for advice on showing?

I agree with fourluckyhorses....Once you have started showing and the horse has gone through several clips, clipping a week prior to the show is a good idea - especially at the end of the season. I've just found that at the beginning of a show season, it takes about 3 clippings before their...
