Need a second opinion on my mare pregnancy!

She does look rather full....... Have you been able to gently get some liquid from her? You want it to be very sticky, like honey. Also watch her belly. Is she still a "wide load" or has the baby dropped low? (If dropped low, the baby is going into foaling position.) Just from the view of her...

    My Mare is Possibly Pregnant.

HOW DID I MISS THIS????? So happy for you! Love the baby blanket! 🥰 And very glad you had Taz there, via phone. The yellow/brown loose stool is indeed milk poop. It will become more brown and firm over the next few days.

    Your favorite barn hacks !

Baling Twine is definitely a multi-purpose product. We use it in a pinch for temporary fence repairs. And when we start running out of leads and I want to hold off ordering more (I like to buy in bulk), I run to the hardware store for metal clips and make leads by double braiding twine to...

Question about mini colt covering mares

Very possible that he's shooting bullets at least part of the time. Hope you have separated him from the girls.

Where do you go for advice on showing?

Our nearest shows are also that far away. And our club meetings were also hours away. If you feel your horse would be competitive and you can afford the show money and travel expenses, (no, it's not cheap), do it. OR, use this season as research and getting to know people as well. Do you...

Where do you go for advice on showing?

What WE did when we first jumped in, was attend a couple of shows first. While there we picked people's brains who were obviously bigger farms and some trainers...... just don't do it when they have a horse being prepared to go into the show ring. And take note of what they are wearing, plus...

    Farm? Acreage? Town House?

AbbySmith, Our numbers are actually going down! 20 years ago we had 150 minis/ponies. But we were showing a lot and very seriously into breeding back then. These days, most of our minis are either rescues (people dumped them) or are in their 30's, so are here to retire. If someone actually...

    Farm? Acreage? Town House?

We have 45 acres with a 6 stall barn that's too small to house everybody, so it serves for storing grain and foaling or if someone is unwell. Our house is an 80 yr. old one story farm house. Animal count: 40 minis and ponies, 9 full sized, 3 llamas, 1 alpaca, 1 jenny, 15 chickens, a few ducks...

    Can You Spot The Animal??

Camouflage Art by Beverly Doolittle! We owned a couple of her prints and eventually sold them.

Wondering if anyone can give me some hints to as when I might expect my mini to foal?

The absolute best is within 3 hours. I start getting antsy at 6 hours. We tend to milk the mare at 3 hours and give the foal a "jump start". They gain some strength and get more aggressive with latching on. (I'm usually down on my hands and knees watching to make sure she's really ON a teat.)...

Should I get a vet out?

BACKING, especially up an incline is supposed to be the best, as Chanda said.

    Movin' Violation and me

Welcome Aboard! And wow. I bet your Mo won his share of ribbons! Is he still a stud or has he been gelded? Oh, and please share more about your dog rescue.

    Two questions

Yes. I have always used the warm damp wash cloth method on the mare's bag and teats. It's an area that needs cleaning anyway and it gets them used to you checking. Ph strips are VERY helpful, BTW. But if you don't have any and manage to get some liquid on your finger, check how sticky it is.

PLEASE HELP Looking for a trailer!

What do you have as a vehicle for hauling? Oh, and by any chance do you own a mini van? I am assuming you own a pickup? For one or two minis, a pickup with a canopy and a ramp works. You'd have to line the bed with rubber mat(s) and I'd suggest using bales of straw to cushion the front and...
