    Drive Me Buggy 2020 Hours

120 minutes of driving time today! Zorro pulled the bike and I ponied Sky :)

    Drive Me Buggy 2020 Hours

I wanted to drive Zorro today and pony Sky, but when I went out to get started, the wind picked up and was blowing at least 30 mph. So I nixed driving and decided to ground drive Zorro and lead Sky. Then I ended up one line driving them both as they literally walk/trotted the entire 4 miles...

What do you put your hay in for your mini?

I feed in Hay Chix nets on the ground, on rubber mats. I have fed this way for many years. A few of my hay nets are nearing 8 years old now!

    Fencing?

I love the cattle panels for the minis. The field fence or no climb fence will end up all stretched out with lovely "Butt bubbles" where they scratch their butts. The cattle panels will hold their shape perfectly! I use wood posts at each end of the cattle panel with T-posts in the middle.

    Vaccine Reaction

    @Cayuse YES! I agree wholeheartedly!!

    Vaccine Reaction

I would ask your vet about doing a blood panel to check for metabolic issues as well. But they have to do that at a certain time of year for it to be accurate, so I would check into that before you go in for your annual check up. I can't remember when it has to be done. My IR mare had her bloods...

    Vaccine Reaction

@MajorClementine I'm so sorry to hear about your fjord. Colic is so scary. On the one hand you don't want to panic and create a lot of drama if they just need to release some gas... on the other hand it feels like if you don't panic and get them to the vet things turn fast. I have not had...

A few questions from a newbie...

@MerMaeve My tack room is 6' x 12'. I wouldn't mind it being a bit bigger so my Hyperbike fits a little better. I would love a place that I could roll the bike in to store it and I didn't have to either carry it in or take it apart. But it does hold all my personal gear as well as lots of tack...

    Vaccine Reaction

Zorro has had his teeth done every year since he was a yearling. This other vet said he may be a candidate for twice a year. I know Dr. Tucker likes to do them more frequently, mimicking natural wear in the wild, but he doesn't use power tools. The brand of vaccine was Mercer. My regular vet...

    Vaccine Reaction

We had a pretty scary week here this last week. On Monday I took Sky and Zorro to the vet because I wanted him to take a look at their teeth (they are balling up hay and leaving them all over the track. Zorro drops a lot of pellets when he eats his breakfast.) and to talk about getting them an...

    Harness question

I'm with @MajorClementine on this one. I prefer this style of shaft loop because I want my shafts to float. I do not want to be strapping my shafts to my pony, especially if the cart is not well balanced. I have seen too many horses and ponies with sores in their arm pit area from an ill...

A few questions from a newbie...

You have received wonderful advice here! I will add that my ponies live on a small track system, which is a great way to manage a smaller acreage. My track is very small but it's possible to build one on a larger property, and many people have them on large acreage. But my ponies have benefited...

    Drive Me Buggy 2020 Hours

I drove Zorro in the bike and ponied Sky today for 120 minutes. We went 5 miles! But walked most of it because it's a steep climb...

    Drive Me Buggy 2020 Hours

I better catch up! On 4/30/20 I ground drove Zorro for 60 minutes. Ponied Sky along behind! Today, 5/2/20 I drove Zorro in the bike for 120 minutes. It was a beautiful afternoon for a long drive!

    Drive Me Buggy 2020 Hours

    VanderVeen carts!!

I really really want one too but have spent too much money lately ... and my track needs a load of sand. I do hope he doesn't stop making them all together!

    Your Drive Day

It was a beautiful day for a loooong walk. We did 5 miles but there was so much UPHILL! And yes there was uphill going both directions! LOL! We came across this GIANT moose print. So glad we didn't come across the moose that made it!

    Drive Me Buggy 2020 Hours

Zorro had 120 minutes of ground driving today. I ponied Sky along behind :) It was a loooong uphill walk. I'm pretty tired tonight. Clearly I need to get in better shape! LOL!

    Your Drive Day

@Willow Flats I do the same thing... look for lovely roads to drive on. Yesterday I even pulled off the road and went walking for a little bit to find a good mountain trail I can take the bike on :D I'm so glad you are having success with the exercises I shared! I am getting ready to set up a...
