    Teasing, breeding Covering Mares

The miniature mare is in heat today. When I put them out this morning, she called to the stud. He came and sniffed her all over, she is winking like crazy. He worked himself, up and then just walked away from her. He must figure it's not time yet........... I guess. She is being a pain to...

    Teasing, breeding Covering Mares

I am hoping that being around the stallion will make her show her heats......... If she doesn't breeding in the next few weeks it will have to wait until spring. Even breeding now means that foal won't wean until the end of next year. Any later than that would cause me housing issues.

    Teasing, breeding Covering Mares

For those that are pasture breeders, do you usually see them breeding? or at least teasing? Our stud has been here 17 days and haven't seen any signs of the little mare being in heat... She should be in heat 7 days and out for 14 days, right? The first week he was here, I took him outside...

    Stallion

The stallion arrived two weeks ago tomorrow and not even a hint of the little mare coming into season......... I would guess it will have to be this coming week... unless it's too late in the season.

    Teasing, breeding Covering Mares

I am so glad that I posted the picture. I really only noticed that there were walls to stand behind.. You pointed out several things I didn't even see......... I don't think I will be doing any AI, I am more a ohnatural kind of guy.

    Teasing, breeding Covering Mares

I found this picture on the internet, and I thought this looked like a safer set up, with the mare on one side of the wall, and the handler standing on the other side. In my case, if I added a post to tie her head to... then the side wall lets the stud handler stand on the other side of it as...

    Teasing, breeding Covering Mares

The stud walked out by the Standardbred today, she squatted right down, winking, spraying and oliver looked at me and I could have swore I heard him say " do you have that in a small?"

    Teasing, breeding Covering Mares

Well, chances are I will be handling the mare and stud alone unless I pasture breed. There is not much help around here now that the girls have jobs. Most of my friends aren't my next door neighbors. I will add a ring to the wall of the barn to tie the mare to, if need be I guess. The...

    Teasing, breeding Covering Mares

There is no chance that my mini stud would breed my Standardbred mare, right? I never really thought of that until you said your Arabian was bred to a Shetland.

What is the product that is used for a tail wrap? do they need that?

    Teasing, breeding Covering Mares

I was reading that most people that hand mate breed on the 3 day of heat, and every second day there after. Do you count the due date from the first breeding? or the last breeding?

    Teasing, breeding Covering Mares

If you took your mare out to be covered, would you expect the farm with the stud to be equipped with a teasing wall?

    Teasing, breeding Covering Mares

Ok, Sounds like I don't need all that stuff then. I just want to keep it simple but at the same time I want to keep everyone safe. He may not be a million dollar stallion, but he is mine and I will treat him well.

    Stallion

No, I actually didn't ask that..... I was simply repeating a question that someone else ask in a post or two above the picture post. What I asked how to control him/train him as a stallion.

Thanks for your thoughts and opinions. I may not sell any foals anyway...... and if no one wants to use him, I am ok with that too............ Beauty is in the eye of the beholder........... But the fancy little long necked minis like the show minis don't interest me at all......... I doubt...

    Teasing, breeding Covering Mares

I thought it best to start a new topic with this although lots of us have already been talking about your new 3 year old stud "Oliver". I have been reading about the teasing and covering process, and it seems like most of what is written is designed for the Big horses. SO How much of the...

Oliver is not registered, and I was concerned about that, but neither is my mare, which is his main purpose. If others want to use him that's good it not ok. So far it has been a bit of a learning curve. I expected him to be hard on the gelding, but I tried them all together while I was right...

    Stallion

AmySue, do you know any of the dimensions of your cute little mini barns? I know there was a post about them, but I can't seem to find it...... If my herd keeps growing there will be a building project on the horizon.

Oliver has arrived! we unloaded him off the truck, and put him on the lead. I stood and talked to the guy for about 40 mins, and he stood at my side like a puppy. The mini gelding was about 50 feet in front of him and the Standardbred mare and big gelding was about 50 feet behind him, and he...

Great pictures, thanks for the encouraging words. The thing about trying to garden with minis is that I am not sure where to get the equipment. Amy sue, the little buildings that I pictured that you said were yours, what are there dimensions? I am guessing each half is a tie stall. The fellow...
