    How to not over feed

I just have one right now. He is 36.5" and weighs about 275lbs

    How to not over feed

All of my hay is weighed and Mike gets 2.5lbs twice a day. I'll probably be cutting him down a bit as he's starting to store some fat rolls on his shoulders. He takes a couple hours to eat all of his hay morning and night and then gets turned out on a dry lot during the day. There isn't a lot...

    Alfalfa pellets

a lot can depend on brand. I THINK a lb of pellets = 1lb of hay but I'd look on the website to confirm. I feed Haystacks special blend and my mini get 1 c twice a day along with 2.5lb of hay.

    Farrier etiquette

It is not like you cancelled on him and called someone else. HE is the one that cancelled and you had the best interests of your horses in mind. In my opinion, if he has a problem I'd tell him just that - your horses could not wait and you took care of them. If he doesn't like it, then maybe it...

    Which Ration Balancer?

In my area north of Seattle, we pay $45 for a bag

    Behavior question

It sounds to me like she is just overstimulated and not used to new, loud, experiences. Her reaction is the only way she knows to get rid of the tension and let you know she isn't comfortable. You could work with her, slowly introducing new things and rewarding when she is calm. I'd do it the...

    Comfy Fit in Dishwasher

I have never used the dishwasher for mine. I take it in the shower 🙂

    Supplements

My two get Triple Crown Gold balancer (1/2c twice a day) and some FlexMax for joints.

    How do you slim down?

For weight control here, my guys go out on a dry lot (no or very little grass) and get all their hay weighed and portioned balancer and hay pellets. How much food do you feed? For my gelding (275lbs good weight), he gets 2# of hay twice a day along with balancer and a cup and a 1/3 of hay...

    Equine Dentist or Vet

We use our same vet to do dentals on all the horses here (2 minis, 3 small ponies, 2 large ponies, and a horse). She does a great job on all of them. When she found that my gelding needed a tooth pulled we went to the equine dentist to get it done. So I've used both but only use the dentist for...

    Treats for training

Use whatever your horse most enjoys for rewards. Scratches are great cause you always have them "at hand" :-) I'm also the dissenter here as there is nothing wrong with using a food reward as long as you teach them that grabbing, biting, being pushy is not allowed. As someone who uses positive...

    AMHR Nationals/AMHA Worlds

Yes, my friend is back there with her yearling gelding. Hopefully they will do Liberty tonight! Watching the obstacle driving right now :) I don't mind paying to watch though I do wish we could see all the days at least while the show is going on. I missed her first class where he placed 8th in...

What age is good for a mare to get bred?

My personal feeling is two fold. One, your mare is still a baby and needs to mature before thinking of breeding her. I would not consider it myself until a horse was at least 5 years old if not 7. Second, what has she done to prove she will improve the breed? Have you shown in confirmation or...

    How much grain to feed?

It all depends, IMO, on horse condition. My two don't really get grain. They get a ration balancer (1 cup a day per their weight) and some Haystacks special blend pellets. These are just hay pellets and they only get about a cup a day. I usually increase their actual hay content if needed in the...

    Jessica and Melody

Your girls are lovely. What a great time you and Jessica have had together! I'm sure you'll make wonderful memories with Melody, too. Have you considered coming and trying a Combined Driving event? I'd love to see more people come drive with us. I think you two would do great!

    Shaft Width

I’ve been helping a friend with just this issue. The answer is “as wide as your horse needs to bend properly”. So it is a bit subjective. I love my Bellcrown as it has a lot of room in the back to allow for movement.

    Shows back to normal?

well hopefully everyone is vaccinated if the show officials are not going to enforce the rules

    Shows back to normal?

Here in the Northwest shows are mostly back to normal. If you're fully vaccinated no mask required. We just had our schooling CDE show two weeks ago and a breed show last weekend. Still maintaining distance as needed

    What blankets do you like?

I really like the blankets available from Star Point Horsemanship. They are well made and not horribly expensive. I like to have a waterproof sheet with a little fill and then a medium weight to use if they get a trace clip in the winter
