Is 1” gravel ok for my paddock, or do Minis need the 3/4 “?

Nope, just 2” or so of the 5/8”. Here’s a pic before we fenced the paddocks (still a work in progress!)

While it would probably be fine for the horses, you will hate it when it comes to picking up manure as it will just about the same size. I find with the larger gravel it is hard to get just poop and not a lot of gravel. We are using 5/8" minus for our paddocks

Too Rug Or Not To Rug

I live in Washington state and don't blanket unless I clip my ponies. Our weather can go from cold at night to warm during the day so most times they are fine without them.

    Does anyone know this guy?

I would imagine he was produced by Erica Killion. You could contact her on her website Erica's Tiny Trotters

Average price on a mini horse very similar to one like this?? Neices is wanting my sis to get her one for her bday but we are clueless to prices. Ty!

It all depends. You can find minis from free (at least in initial cost) to thousands of dollars. Age, training, breeding, registration - it all makes a difference. Location matters, too. If you can find one locally you won't have to figure in cost of shipping to you. I'd suggest looking around...

A sidepull noseband or bitless bridle for minis??

I'm sure they could add one or adapt a bit if you asked. I've had a few things they were able to customize for my mini

What grain/feed do you feed you minis?

My guys used to get Safe Choice Performance but I recently switched to Triple Crown Gold Balancer. They get 1/3 cup along with a pound of good Timothy hay twice a day. I've found that any more than that an I have fat minis. Eden thinks I'm mean but I'd rather her be a little hungry than overweight.

    DIY Pairs Harness

I am just working on doing the same thing. I am using collar and hames so it makes it a bit easier. If you have breast collars they really work best if you have rings on them to attach the pole straps and other items. @MindySchroder wrote a great blog post on converting single harnesses to...

    Historical stallions

Very cool. Thank you! My little girl Eden (in my avatar) has Del's Little Man (and a lot of other Del horses) on her Dam's side and Shadow Oaks Paul Bunyan on her Sire's side. It was fun to see pictures of them from years ago :) https://www.allbreedpedigree.com/dayspring+beth+eden

    Guilt

Minis get fat SO fast - having a dry lot is not a bad thing. As others said, many horses spend most of their day in stalls. My girl has a 12x12 stall with a run in paddock off the back, and she gets turned out into a mostly dry lot for at least a few hours every day that it isn't horrid weather...

    Mares with geldings

I've never had an issue with my mare and gelding together. They get along fine; Mike thinks he is in charge until Eden sets him straight :-)

Looking for a Mini Horse On Line Tack Store

I do not know who you are referring to but I highly recommend Chimacum Tack for great mini halters and leads. I love the thin nose buckle halter and they have yacht rope leads that are great. https://chimacumtack.com/product/e-z-care-beta-halters-skinny/...

    Harness question

This harness has an overgirth. Place the saddle as normal, with the shafts through the loops. Fasten the main girth and then fasten the overgirth (the straps attached to the tugs). It does not need to be tight but should be snug enough that your shafts don't rise up.

Daughter's mini horse is difficult to work with

It can be very hard when they don't trust you, which is what it appears is this mare's issue. I highly recommend some type of positive reinforcement training. While I have been doing R+ training for awhile, I just recently started with Connection Training and I think it might work for you and...

    Identification

Microchipping is very common in high end dressage and eventing horses. If you're very concerned you could get a vet to chip your horses. You could also do like they do with other animals and put a tattoo in the ear to identify and note that the animal is chipped. For most of us though, good...

Update on Sugarfoot! He is home!

He is adorable! My little gelding hates not being able to see out of the trailer and when he is riding by himself he will rear to see out when we stop. If my girl is in there with him then he's happy to just ride. When it comes to training, especially a horse with fear and trust issues as it...

Electric fence...to use or not to use

Electric fence, whether wire or tape, is usually pretty effective. If the minis have lots of mane or coat though I have seen them ignore the wire as their hair is insulating. I would definitely not use it alone to keep stallions away from mares. Just like other animals, if they want to get...

    Question about Easy Entry/CDE carts

Yes, your cart would be fine at Training level (assuming you have inflated wheels). Once you advance to Preliminary level you have to have solid wheels. Just make sure your cart is put together well and can handle the terrain. I did my first few CDEs with an easy entry cart and my friend's...
