    Hips and Hyperbikes

Carriage is the builder of the Hyperbike, so I'm guessing he 'may' recommend it.....

Team harness, work collars with hames or breastcollars? What is best for minis???

If you decide to go for full collars, I've had a strong recommendation from some folks who drive minis a LOT, who use collars from an online supplier; PM me if you'd like the name. Have no personal experience with the collars, but have looked at them online, and they appear both well-made and...

    Miniature Horses in the 1950's

I was recently looking online for some of the photos from the making the movie,'Giant'(Liz Taylor, Rock Hudson, James Dean, etc.,in West Texas in 1955)...I was there to see some of the filming, and help hold cattle for 'background'. LIFE magazine was on set taking photos, including some of an...

    Obstacle Course and other questions

Try going on Youtube and finding some of the Barry Hook videos. They are masters of desensitizing driving horses, and some of their videos also show their own 'obstacle course',with numerous ideas. Just yesterday I watched a new one showing some things they do to desensitize, including dragging...

    Driving in deep footing?

If you decide to try it, I'd definitely suggest the hyperbike, since it is so much lighter-weight than a conventional cart. Warm the horse up before harnessing up by a short session of longeing if possible; begin at the walk, take note of how hard the horse seems to be working to move forward...

    Stephen King's new book, anyone?

After completing the reading of it,I'd agree...to me,it wasn't his 'best effort'. OK, but not great, as so many of his others are.

    Dogs and driving

And...fastening the dog in the cart in any way could be very dangerous to the dog should anything go wrong and you be ejected from the cart; I'd never do it! Like Kendra, I have a Chihuahua, and a Maltese, but would never try to take either in the cart(though one year in the New Mexico State Fair...

    Ulcer prevention, ranitidine

When I was giving ranitidine to an approx. 250 lb. mini, I gave at least 3 of the 150 mg. each time; my vet STRESSED that the effects only lasted 8 hours, so it was VERY important to give them as close to every 8 hours as possible. You can do this w/o having to get up in the middle of the night...

    Stephen King's new book, anyone?

Jill, anyone else...seen S. King's latest novel, 'Revival'? I didn't even know he had one out when my dear daughter gave it to me for Christmas! Dealing w/ weather issues has kept me busy, but I'm finally getting to spend time reading it. It is another 'good one'!

    Tracking systems/ Paddock Paradise

Such a system wouldn't be needed if you are set up so that the horses are pretty much free to roam pastures; it's a concept for those who have enough space, but for any number of reasons, cannot/do not want to, allow the horses to freely roam the entire area most/all of the time!

    Tracking systems/ Paddock Paradise

I have been reading about this for some years now, having come across it way back when the Swedish Hoof School(?) was the first to advocate methods of making slow feeders. I think it sounds like a winning idea! I have not tried it simply because I have a larger acreage and cannot afford what it...

    New Fur Baby

That is one darn cute puppy! So sorry you lost your longtime friends; I know how hard that is. They are FOREVER in our hearts, but thankfully, our hearts are always big enough for another to occupy THEIR special place there. I have two tiny girl dogs who are 15 and 17, so I know my time with...

    dog food

I used Blue Buffalo for a good while, but the price just kept climbing, and my little house dogs didn't like/wouldn't eat the 'flavor bits'...those little black pieces...thereby wasting/not utilizing, a good part of that pricey food. I now feed the two OLD tiny dogs, and the senior Dobie, a mix...

    Rearing mini -

It is almost always a good idea to give a 'green' or long-unused horse some work to use up some energy before actually hitching them...a good longeing session, for example...using all gaits, warming up at a walk, progressing to various trots, and perhaps even a canter/lope. This helps reinforce...

    Ebola in the US

The latest report on my home page is that ANOTHER female care worker(not sure if an actual nurse?) involved in the care of the original patient in Dallas has tested positive for ebola, and she had just flown back to Dallas from an 'over-the-weekend' visit to the Cleveland, OH area the day before...

Set Your DVRs -- The Walking Dead

Season five opener? BEST yet! Watch as soon as you can; if you're any sort of fan of this show(and it's one of my top 3 favorites), you will be transfixed!! I am SOOO glad it's back! Also watched 'Talking Dead', the after-show....a good one this time, too.

    Ebola in the US

Minimor made a point that had struck home with me...this very morning some 'expert' on AM TV news reiterated the line about 'it not being airbourne' and gave an 'example of not being able to get it from as being 'when someone sneezes'....yet a sneeze SPRAYS droplets of 'body fluid'! Do they...
