It's probably because he's spending time in your house where it's warm. I'd blanket him really well when he's out so his temp stays about the same. Drastic temp changes can be a cause of colic.

What you felt could have been a foal, keep getting her used to you hugging her belly and touching her udder, you should start feeling more happening in there( I hope) and have a better chance of feeling any...

Good luck finding her udder under all that hair! LOL! I find using a hand mirror works really well for getting udder shots unless you want to get under her or take a bunch before one works well. Now you have the 'fun' of trying to feel movement and see any changes starting to happen. I'm hoping...

I've seen a lot of horses who are very thin/malnourished who have a really long shaggy coat especially when it's colder. Even though it's warm there it's still 'winter', he could have grown the hair to try to stay warm since he was so thin. Thank you for giving him a good home!!!!!!
