My mare is driving me crazy! xD What do you guys think??

Sounds like she's close! Can you post pictures?

Mares resting respiratory rate is elevated

I think it's being really close to foaling, everything else sounds good. If it stays like that probably just the baby taking up so much room, if it comes and goes it could be prelabor/labor. I had one a couple of years ago who was breathing harder on and off for a few days and that was the only...

    Buckskin or dun???

I have no idea if they're dun or buckskin but they are adorable!!!!

Does this look like small pony size?

There's another way of using a rope halter so it doesn't slip around and bunch up on the sides if that doesn't work for you. If you're handy at all you can tie your own rope halter and put rings, one under each side of his jaw to clip reins on. I like these better than side pulls and as an added...

Do only pregnant mares get this?

Thank you Elizabeth!! I of course forgot this morning and was going to try again tonight, now I don't have to :D. ValerieS, that's great that she's back to normal, you can breath again.....for now. I go with maybe until they can't be but I'm a worrier ;). Please keep us posted

Do only pregnant mares get this?

I think that's normal pregnant or not but don't take my word for it. I'm going to double check tomorrow when I go out to the barn if I manage to remember. How are your girls doing? Do they give you the 'should I worry about you?' look yet? Haha, pregnant mares make us totally insane :)

Bad news; Impaction Colic Surgery. She survived, but isn't out of the woods yet.

I've been afraid to ask. I have a very bad feeling no news is not good news 🙁 , I'd be thrilled to be told I'm wrong though.

Does this look like small pony size?

Just an idea. Have you ever thought about using a rope halter? Have a look at ropehorsetack.com. They have a few different styles of sidepulls/bitless bridles, I know someone with the AB side pull and it works great. They do custom colours and sizing.

    Heart Horse

I have to admit I've never really understood the heart horse thing. I love all my horses, so I guess you can say I have had 10 and do have 18 heart horses.

    Getting Ready for Kacie Foaling

    Great idea for temporary stalls

Bad news; Impaction Colic Surgery. She survived, but isn't out of the woods yet.

Yes, hydroponic grass/sprouts!! Another thing to ask the vet about for her. This started for horses many years ago and they do great with it. They get a 'tray' every day. I looked and there are lots of youtube videos on how to make your own system. It's not very expensive or labour...

Bad news; Impaction Colic Surgery. She survived, but isn't out of the woods yet.

Good news!! Thanks for posting an update, I check back all the time hoping for something good. I'm not going to be any help with toys, mine mostly ignore theirs. I think a lik-it would be fine for her. They are mostly sugar but if she's a hard keeper she would be ok with that. All her feed in...

Bad news; Impaction Colic Surgery. She survived, but isn't out of the woods yet.

What a nightmare!! So happy she came through the surgery and is stable. I've known 3 horses who have had colic surgery and relaxation is a big thing for them making it out of the clinic. If you can get the massage and acupuncture done asap it would be very good for her as well as you being able...

A mini blog for the mini demons! ♡

Interesting but I agree, I'm not completely sold on it.

    Hindgut Acidosis and Ulcers

I'm so glad she's there with you, thank you, thank you for looking after her!! ❤ I don't think it's specifically a mini thing, I have an OTTB who was very like that that I almost lost a few years ago. I'm no expert but I think you're on the right track. I find hay (and grass) and beetpulp is the...

    Gelding an older horse

Is that 8 hours of driving because you have to drop him off, go home then pick him up? You could stay overnight and call it a mini holiday, someone else cooks and cleans, sounds amazing to me:D

    Gelding an older horse

I have one who was a breeding stallion all his life then I gelded him at 16. He hasn't had any issues with gaining more weight. His personality hasn't changed at all but he isn't interested in breeding mares anymore and plays much more. He's out with 3 mares and two geldings, one wasn't gelded...

    How's the Weather ?

Minimor, I don't know how you do it there, my hat's off to you. I have a winter boarder who comes in for Dec, Jan, Feb. When she was 14 her family moved to Alaska. There was one place near her that rented horses and she'd go every week to ride, even in the winter. It was -50!!!!! Now when it's...

    How's the Weather ?

I've waved my white flag to winter and it's not going away:(. This winter has been brutal everywhere I think. I've been going between -30c and +5c (more cold than warm), twice so much snow in one day (once in 2 hours) that I couldn't plow out until it warmed up and some of it melted. Then it...

    Grazing and Frost

I've heard that about frost but completely ignore it. If I didn't they wouldn't get out much spring/fall here in Canada. 😂 The sugar content is always lower in the mornings when it's been used up overnight so if you're only doing part time turn out that's the best time for it, night time turn...
