    feed and travel question

We are moving 2800 miles in a couple weeks. Fun, fun. Our plan is to go about 500 miles a day, give or take a few, over 6 days. I am not planning on feeding grain on the trip, but wondering if I need to wean them off of grain before we go. I would think that stopping "cold turkey" would cause...

    Clipped my mare...WOW!

Yes, she has striped hooves. Dam was a pinto (Nestucca Sparklett). Sire was Sierra Dawn Unos Bucks Sensation. I don't know anything about his coloring. Does anyone know anything about these two horses? I'm curious to know a little more about them if anyone knows. She lightens up more each year...

    Clipped my mare...WOW!

I body clipped one of my mares today, minus her legs and whiskers, and wow. She looks good! She is shiny, especially when the sun hits her. Maybe that is why she was named Mini CBS Sensation Sun Kiss. I like to leave the legs unclipped for fly protection and also the whiskers. I don't like...

IT'S DONE!! Horse trailer re-do (my mini trailer)

I have added some pictures to the original post above of our progress. It's fun demolishing horse trailers. This may become a hobby

    Worried

We had our minis on a timothy mix, but they didn't do well, so we switched them. It gives a pot-belly, partially from protein, but also from it being course. Be careful with feeding straight alfalfa. It can make them sick. A good grass mix is fine though with supplementing alfalfa hay or...

    Worried

First, I would check with your vet. I say this because there may be something else going on that we can't see on the outside. Can you post a picture of her so we can see a little more about what she looks like? Sometimes that helps to pinpoint something she is lacking. How old is she? What kind...

    Andis Vs Wahl clippers?

I like my Andis. It takes a little longer than I would want to eat through winter fuzz, but I think that has to do with impatience and wanting to see what color my ever-changing mare is going to look like each summer. She is graying out.

IT'S DONE!! Horse trailer re-do (my mini trailer)

SCROLL DOWN FOR UPDATES Well, the time has come to re-do our trailer--probably a little overdue though. It needs a major overhaul. We bought it about a year and a half ago. It was originally a 2 horse straight load, but had been modified into a 3 mini horse. It's a 1982 WW. It's about 6' tall...

    potbelly-how to get rid of????

I called the Purina nutrition people and decided on Purina Senior Active Healthy Edge for a grain. It's 14% protein, 8% fat, and 18% fiber. I used to feed this to my 15 year old stallion and he did very well on it (was dumb to switch him--he did much better on this than Triple Crown). They said...

    potbelly-how to get rid of????

Thanks. The protein content of the grain she's on is 12%, 3% fat, and 20% fiber. The senior feed was because I was going to put her on that with our older mini for added protein and nutrients, but I called Triple Crown and they said she wouldn't be getting her nutritional needs met with it since...

    horse shows in SC?

I would love to go to the Williamston shows, but it's 7.5 hours from me (gas, classes, stall, motel, health certificate=more money than i can spend on a show) Thanks for the link for the wncmhc. I will look into it more. It looks like it's based about 2 hours from me, so that could be do-able.

    potbelly-how to get rid of????

I have been trying to get rid of the potbelly on my 2 year old filly and it won't go away. I got her at 6 months old as a rescue in really bad shape. Now she gets used as a therapy horse in nursing homes I've struggled to keep her belly at the right spot and it seems like nothing I do works...

    horse shows in SC?

I would like to show my mini stallion with AMHA, but there are no shows within 5 or 6 hours of here (Upstate South Carolina). Is there a way to get some shows lined up for next year that are closer for those of us who want to show our minis out here without driving so far? Or, are there people...
