    Hoof deformaties:

I agree with Marsha... It looks like the deformity is at least in the fetlock and the hoof is growing odd because of the weird pressure/strain caused by the leg deformity. It does not look like the hooves are at fault or even in need of correction.

    Can't make myself….

As to razoring... I show a Shetland now and we can't razor... But I never personally liked the look and don't do it myself. But I do razor myself in various areas and it doesn't hurt or bother me so I don't care if others do it. Someday I'll get my judges card and I know it doesn't matter to...

    Can't make myself….

Well... I have a couple comfy throat wraps from RaDon that I use sparingly. I'm looking to place in halter but never really motivated for the grands. As for clipping, I clip my horses soaking wet and don't have any trouble... In fact it keeps the blades really cool. You need strong clippers...

    Chomping the bit

My pony is very particular about bits... French link snaffle he's very happy with and he does seem to adore the Myler comfort snaffle. Instant quiet mouth.

    Clippers (again!) Oster users?

I had Oster A5s for a long time and they were okay but once I used better clippers there was no going back.

    Fallen Crests -- Hereditary?

I've seen lots of Andalusians with fallen crests... And then passed within the lines. I'm positive in some cases it can be hereditary. No sense in breeding that. I'm sure it can occur for medical reasons of course... But I've seen both mares and stallions with it and it's just no good.

How do you hook up your mini when alone?

http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=ZoUW4HTwb2Q Here is how I train and hook mine. This is a green broke (hadn't been shown yet) Shetland pony. I do tie my horses to harness them up, but then I ground drive them from the tie area to the cart. I like to hook in a big open area. Once the bridle is...

    alfalfa hay, pellets, or cubes

I've had horses on pellets as forage too.

    alfalfa hay, pellets, or cubes

In this order: hay, cubes, and then pellets. This is because of the long stem fiber... The more the hay is processed, the less long stem fiber there is for the horses' chew time and gut health.

Google "ground tie" for different techniques.

    Topical ointment question

BNP ophthalmic ointment. Vetericyn is also supposedly safe to use everywhere, but I'm still not convinced it's more than a ridiculously priced saline solution.

AMHA new Halter Stock Horse Division!

How exactly does a judge articulate (admit) or even notice preferences like "I will place a pretty head over a weak hip" or "I tend to pin horses with big front end action over breaks in gaits or hind impulsion?" Judging is way too many variables in a way too unpredictable playing field. I've...

Colic prone horse, need help- (long post)

My pony seems to be doing well on SmartGut... By Smartpak.com but he has never been diagnosed by a vet as to actually be affected by ulcers. But it has helped an uncharacteristic grumpy attitude. He may not be getting along with his hay if he's getting impactions. Some horses colic when fed...

Colic prone horse, need help- (long post)

Could be anything. A few horses I've known have had entroliths and when the entrolith would shift the horse would colic. Lots of sand can cause colic. Ulcers can cause colic symptoms. Some horses are just "wusses" about pain and any little gas bubble will make them feel icky.

    ASPC AMHR registration photos

I like the photos. Since we don't require DNA or microchipping... I feel like photos might discourage forgery just a tiny bit.

winter laminitis What information can you share?

Don't have time at the moment to read everything... But if you soak the grass hay for 20-30 mins and drain off the "tea" water, it will leach out a lot of the sugar and your little one can have more to eat.

    Alfalfa Pellets

I do want to mention that for minis I'd soak the pellets briefly in water before offering... Even 15 mins will be adequate... Especially small foals can choke and even mature horses.

    Alfalfa Pellets

I like to feed up to 50% of their roughage as alfalfa if the horses are breeding or being worked heavily for showing or competing. It's got more protein and calories than grass and is very nutritionally dense. You can probably feed a pound per feeding on top of what they are getting and they...
