I use a sleeping bag to pull up over the shafts, a bit tricky but effective. I just throw a sheet over the rest. Like you I'd love to see other people's ideas. Perhaps this should be on the Driving part of the forum.

I have 23 minis (and 4 donkeys) and they are all together always. They are herd animals and should live that way......unless.......and there are lots of reasons to separate them (showing, personality clashes, stallions, obesity, illness, foaling etc. etc etc But if they get along well together...

My bet is that somewhere along the line this little mare has had a lot of needles adminstered with the scratch, scratch, scratch...whack...technique and she knows that a scratch is going to be followed by pain. That's my 2 bobs worth.

My donkeys had lice when they arrived. I dusted them with sulphur and put some in their food. Dusted for about a week or so. Yellow donkeys but no more lice.
