Who all is starting to train a mini to drive???

It has been explained to me that horses tend to turn better on one side only. Just takes a lot of extra work with the side they don't like to turn to. Make sure you are giving him enough room to turn in when starting out. You may also want to work on it at a stop. Stand behind like ground...

Who all is starting to train a mini to drive???

Yes, isn't it so great to see how fast they pick it up. I also have a 2 1/2 year old. He was a stallion until October when he was gelded. First we got lunging down pat and the whoa. Then we went for a lot of walks and did obstacle with ditches, water, side passing etc. to earn his trust. I...

Do you have a mini mentor?

For horses in general--my mentor would be my Dad who taught me the love and respect for horses. He was active in my 4-H club and trail riding with our quarter horses. Barbara McDonald for my minis--my first trainer who gave me so many good hints for starting the young ones and driver...

edited to add: I want everyone to know that Cathy has been so quick and helpful on my email questions for AMHR. I am sure the job is really stressful at this time of year. Just an FYI--I questioned not getting hall of fame points for a first place in amateur obstacle driving. Here is the...

    Terrible Twos Question

I went thru this last year with my boy. He was more into playing with me than behaving. It is always difficult to remember they aren't babies and now need to consider you in charge. Do a lot of walking with him, stop often and say whoa. Make him stand a short while and walk some more. A jerk...

    Flooded!!! pictures

Well I guess I won't complain about the constant rain and mud here. Constant fight to keep the stalls dry but their run outs are dry lot or should say a mud lot right now. I hope your water recedes but sounds like this storm is with us for a while on the west coast.

    Getting points at shows

If you get your AMHR amateur information I believe you can have a judge or steward sign at the open shows you participate in for points towards your amateur status.

My stallion is a foster mother!

Such a cute colt! The boys are so much better with the young ones. Weaning my filly with a coming two year old gelding and 24 year old stallion right now. The gelding is same color as her mom so she just latched right on and follows him everywhere. I think he is nicer to her than mom was at...
