    Feeding the nursing mare

My mare is way too thin for my liking. She is nursing a 2 1/2 month old colt. It is too early to wean, but I dont know what to do to help her gain weight. They are currently getting about 6-8 cups (soaked) of beet pulp (equals 4 quarts, because it fills my 8 quart bucket halfway), plus 4 cups...

    Feeding...conditioning...showing

I have questions about feeding and conditioning a yearling. He will be showing. What do you guys feed your yearlings on your show string? Grain, beet pulp, alfalfa pellets/cubes...??? How often do you work them? For how long? I have one that I am trying to get weight on. His coat is dull and...

    Columbia County Parade 2009

So Saturday morning, my sister and I woke up and decided to take Ariel to a small community parade here in town. We decked her out in pretty roses and ribbons, then walked her the miles or two down the road to the start of the parade. Ariel did great for not having been out the last few months...

    Thin Mare

Sorry, I didn't realize I hadn't mentioned where she was thin. That would surely help. Its along her top line. Her spine and hip bones. The Omelene 400 has roughage built in and is designed to be feed with or without hay/pasture. It has beetpulp already in it. Should I add more beetpulp? Or...

    Thin Mare

My mare is thinner than I would like. I've been trying for a couple months to get weight back on her with little luck. She is 10yrs, 35", always been a broodmare, currently has a foal at her side and is open. She's never been an easy keeper. I currently have her on Omelene 400 and SafeChoice...

    Question for you breeders...

I'm not sure how many days the mare was in foal when she miscarried. I was just told she lost it about a month before she was due. The placenta was already coming out when the owner found her, so obviously the foal died. The foal seemed normal otherwise.

    Question for you breeders...

Earlier this year, a friends mare lost a foal due to her placenta seperating a month too soon. The vet flushed her twice and said she was very clean considering. The mare has had numerous foals before and never had any issues. Would you try breeding this mare again? If so, would you do anything...

    Question on Colors...

Alright... My stallion is a silver bay pinto, tobiano who looks to have sabino too. He is by a liver chestnut tobiano, out of a solid black. My mare is a solid buckskin. Her sire is a buckskin (who threw alot of pintos), out of a champane (I believe a solid). Last year they gave me a pinto...
