Your hay may be harming your horse and garden!

Never heard of it before I moved here. Wish I did. Over here, you can get pesticides not sold in other parts of the country. They also heavily spray the GMO crops here, as the GMO plants are not living up to what they are supposed to do. I had no problems in the NW either.... just here...

Your hay may be harming your horse and garden!

Best test... grow some Veggies in a pot.. use a 1/4 to 1/2 as manure, the rest top soil. See how the plants grow. If you feed hay, like I was getting, use your horse's manure after a year or two of being composted ... then your Veggies will either be stunted or out right die. Yes, how the OLD...

Your hay may be harming your horse and garden!

I learned about it the hard way. Never had a problem any where else I lived. Just here. Told by a Vet that came with the equine Dentist.. the hay in this area of the state, is really poor quality, even if it looks good. Basically fiber and nothing else. On top of all the toxic long term...

    Persimmons

They are toxic to horses, I wouldn't recommend them eating any. Good thing you moved them!

Your hay may be harming your horse and garden!

I am specifically concerned with the relatively new class of herbicides called ‘pyridine-carboxylic acids. They are typically designed for use in hayfields, horse pastures, golf courses, right-of-ways, and lawns to kill off unwanted weeds and to remain effective for several months to years...

Depending where in Richmond... closer to me.. 1 hour... if the traffic is behaving... if they are on the south side.. then 1 1/2 to 2 hours away. There are no Icelandic horse people close either. sigh ~~ Would love to find more mini folks in the area!

    Maggie tooth problem

Well, I "Think" I found a recommend equine Dentist (via Carl Mitz's crew) with Vet in tow. But she doesn't take the Care Card. Pretty much tapped out after Sadie... Maggie will see her on Tuesday the 16th... just hope Maggie doesn't get worse before she can get here.

    Maggie tooth problem

Glad you were able to get help Riverrose! I have been turned down by two so far... one is on Cart Mitz's list of great horse dentists. Her name is Hanina Hyde. She is around 2 hours away from me. Don't have a trailer and Maggie won't fit in the back of my Honda Pilot. Only one more that...

    Maggie tooth problem

Its crazy spendy here. Might be cheaper to rent a trailer and drive Maggie over to Dr Vetter in WA state. Am sooo frustrated. I have emailed a couple of equine Dentists,, not sure if they are still practicing or willing to come to my area. All the other emails have bounced back and the...

    Maggie tooth problem

I have a tank water heater. But Maggie wants the water much, much warmer than any heater will heat the water too. I am looking online for Equine Dentists... in the State of VA, to do anything but a float they have to have the Vet here too. So I have to pay for two people. Beyond stupid. Was...

    Maggie tooth problem

Maggie is not acting like she has Ulcers. She drinks or tries to drink cold water, and she tosses and shakes her head like it hurts. So I am pretty sure something is going on with her teeth. If I give her really warm water,,, she drinks the water right up. So she is cold sensitive. She is...

Marsha, Your Equine Dentist emailed back quickly. She doesn't come to this area, but she is going to ask around and see if there are any good ones in this area of VA that can help.

    Maggie tooth problem

Thank you Marsha, will email her. Yes, I used the last of the Banamine on her, but I need to get more. It helped. This vet, didn't have a small lighted camera, mirror.... nothing. Sure she is a good Vet, just doesn't have any dental equipment, not what I expected to see any way.
