    Pregnant horses seizuring

Yes I do, but I do it inside the stall walls away from the horses. I seem to be able to keep it under control by keeping her warm dry and very well fed. LOL, I think she is a very clever mare. 2.5 more months and baby will be here and hopefully she will feel less stressed.

    Mare covered by stallion...not ideal

The lutylize shot cost next to nothing (12 dollars) here in Nova Scotia. Well worth giving her the shot, it wont hurt her even if she isn't bred. But you have to wait a week after the breeding I believe. You're vet will know the time frame I'm sure.

    Higher farrier service rates

I charge 20$ a horse myself. And I charge for gas for anything over half an hours drive. It's far cheaper than the big horse farriers around here. I dont get any complaints about the price. But yes, I tolerate unruly horses on occasion. they usually come around after I've been there a few...

    Pregnant horses seizuring

A little update on my two mares. No further episodes have occurred. Something someone on here said about blood sugar levels rang a real bell for me. The episodes have always occurred when it is 2 or 3 pm and it is cold and or wet out. So it sounded very reasonable to me that these two mares...

    Pregnant horses seizuring

No further seizures but interestingly also no rainy days either. There seems to be a link with wet. It's been freezing cold, but no precipitation and the cold by itself doesn't set them off, just when it is cold and wet together. The horses have equine mineral and salt blocks, no leaves on...

    Pregnant horses seizuring

Hmm, I can try giving a midday meal. Could be the pregnant ones just need a bit more than usual this year, it has been particularly wet and yucky all summer and it is continuing into winter that way. One of these mares stables at night and the other is out 24/7 except on nasty rainy/snowy...

    Pregnant horses seizuring

Here's hoping. If I do find out what is causing it I'll be sure to post here to let you all know. Information is always a good thing. Maybe it will help someone else someday.

    Pregnant horses seizuring

It is December in Nova Scotia. There isn't much in the paddock even in summer, but next to nothing now that we've had a few freezes. Hay is the same hay since July, feed is the same supplier since early spring. Feed is bought every week fresh, so no chance for mold and hay is lovely, well...

    Pregnant horses seizuring

couldn't find it Mary. Sure would like to see it. I've seen other videos of thumps on the internet and this is nothing like that. The horse acts like someone is jolting them. The head jerks up and the body clenches but just for a second and then it releases and then it starts again. This...

    Pregnant horses seizuring

I just stopped feeding beet pulp but was feeding it back when the first mare started so dont think that is the reason. Maybe I better start using it again though just in case it was helping.

    Pregnant horses seizuring

Hey guys, I know I have seen you solve issues that vets could not figure out as we have some awesome mini experts here. So I'm bringing this here in case someone here has had a similar thing happen. I have 5 mares pregnant (about 6 - 8 months along). Two months ago one of them (at 6 months)...

Do you test your mares for pregnancy?

I use weefoal 120s (which are the original tests). Have had great success with them. The weefoal 38s sounded like a good idea, but I've tried them many times and got about 50% success! LOL. I'd rather just guess and not pay out the money. But like I said, weefoal 120's give me perfect, clear...

Aborted fetus, Huybers Utopia Stable :(

Well the official word from the horse whisperer is that the mare that aborted was Penny, my 3year old pinto mare. Both she and Eclipse had tested negative but they were the two that were acting a bit off, so I figured it was one of them. I guess Elipse said she felt fine but she did not think...

Aborted fetus, Huybers Utopia Stable :(

Have a horse whisperer coming tonight to see if she can gleam more info from Eclipse and if she says it wasn't her then we are gonna start asking Penny and the others. Someone knows whose baby it was, we will get to the bottom of this thing.

Aborted fetus, Huybers Utopia Stable :(

It was a mare I bought in December 2012. She would have been 120 days or so. Her name was Flicka, but I've since renamed her Eclipse, which she already responds too. She is a bit of a nervous mare, and has just recently started to settle down and let me brush her all over and check her udder...

Aborted fetus, Huybers Utopia Stable :(

Thank you Diane, I think I found the culpret. There was one mare with loose poos and she has a wet side, like she layed down in fluids so I'm thinking it was her. I will definitely be watching backsides for a few days or more.

    Aborted fetus

Think I have found the mare that aborted. Her side was wet and the ground is dry except where the fetus was found (placental fluids). She was lying in the middle of the herd and she is a lower level mare who never relaxes around the alpha crowd, so that is odd. This makes me guess it is her...

Aborted fetus, Huybers Utopia Stable :(

Well so far, no one is showing signs. I'm very upset, more than I thought I woudl be. Buried the little guy in a proper manner. RIP little colt.

    Aborted fetus

I test with weefoal120. I've had complete success with the 120 day test, even testing as early as day 109. Tested Penny at day 113 so it is possible that she was tested too early and was pregnant, but she has no signs of aborting. Will continue to watch her for signs of aborting. I'm sad...
