    Competitive driving horse.....mare or gelding?

I drive CDE's mostly and I have successfull shown with stallions, geldings and mares. There are always individuals that don't enjoy showing or just lazy. There are some moody studs during breeding season, there are some moody mares in heat. Some geldings are too lazy and see no point in...

    Working On Neck Flexion

I can say out of former knowledge and expirience that the German Training Scale is at least for dressage or driving CDE's is very helpful. It explains when and why some exercises should be choosedtoimprove the horse and why other stuff won't work. If you think it over you will have expirienced...

    Stabling show horses at home?

Thank you all for your answers, we bring every one of them to her own stable for feeding time. But your answers gave me a heads up for turning them out and let them play.

    Excessive drooling

The first thing coming to my mind was ulcers. I believe there are no classical signs for ulcers so I would give it a try.

    Stabling show horses at home?

Do you stable your show horses at home? Or are they running in a dry lot with shelter? I just can't decide if I put them all in stable or let them play and run outside. These are all mares and foals (ASPC and Mini) in the age range couple of weeks to 5 y-o. They won't do any harm to another one...

    How often do you drive?

Howoften I drive the hrse depends on the horse. A green horse would drve any other day, some expirenced one once and twice a week with round pen work, long reining and so on n between. Some horses I drive every day for trainng for CDE's. It depends on your horse and your goals.

    Working On Neck Flexion

I too drive wth a very loose overcheck. I would suggest that you drive many figures eight at first t get him supple side by side. It is easier to stretch one side after another rather than stretching both for tugging the nose in. When you are driving your figures eight you both will reach a...

    Tandem resources

There is a very good book on drving a Tandem availble. You will find it when you look up "tandem driving" at amazon. If the leader is worked well in long reins and is wellmanered there should be no problem but I would suggest to have at least twohelpng people on your side.

    Strengthening belly muscles

Cantering tightens the belly muscles and also the topline. My driving horses were lunged most of the time transitions trot-canter because when driven they just trot the whole time (there are some breaks at walk too). Like with dressage horses transtions trot-canter-trot also work like sit-ups.

Pacing new mom and hungry foal

We have had the similar with a maiden mare. We just hold the mare a couple of times so the foal can nurse. We started to turn out mum and baby. The next day she and her colt were fine. I think Banamine and turn out should do the trick.

When you lose track of horses you've sold....

The problem with guilt is, if you lost track you just don't know for sure. Perhaps the horse is well cared for but your mind is playing tricks and you have the magination of horror scenes. You just don't know for sure. I believe that there is purpose in live and there are many very nice horse...
