    What's For DINNER Tonight?

I never met a potato I didn't like.... Baked Potato Soup A bunch of potatoes- depends on how many you're feeding, big batch or small batch. For a small batch I'd use half a dozen medium-to-large size potatoes. Quart of chicken stock Tub of sour cream (not the little one) Shredded cheddar...

Does Anybody Else Clip For Winter?

I trace clipped a couple weeks ago, and blanket because we have really damp cold weather. His coat just gets too thick and he sweats too much when I train him. We don't use heavy blankets, but waterproof is very important. Most horses here that are turned out in the winter live with waterproof...

    GELD HIM OR NOT?

Geld him. If hubby is complaining about costs then he's got a lot of horse education to come. Gelding is not expensive compared to some of the other things that you may need with your boy. He'll be safer as a gelding, for you to handle and for any occasion where there will be other horses. Now...

    Deworming problem

I agree with Marty, that just isn't healthy to my horse. I worm my dogs too, since I let them run on fields and places they might pick stuff up. 4x a year minimum, I do rotate wormers. As to being thin on the topside along with changing feed up a little make sure to get teeth checked as well.

My minis cart is possibly too small??

His cart does look too small, and his harness needs adjusted. The backstrap is too long, and his breeching is sitting too low. The hip strap should be farther forward to his girth, so it goes right over his hip. His breastcollar looks too high, it should rest just above the front point of his...

    What's For DINNER Tonight?

I got fancy last night- made Madras Curry Chicken for the first time in years. I'd be fine with it being spicier, but I'd forgotten how tasty it is.

    Secret SANTA HINT THREAD!!!

I don't know what I put in my email, probably nothing! I love lime green and bright pink together, I have two whippets and two Japanese chins along with my pony. I love stuff from other places, and collect refrigerator magnets from everywhere. I'm not much of a snack person, but my dogs and...

    Does anyone recognize this mini?

He looks so much better now! Lucky guy that you brought him home.

    The New Horse

I would use a stud chain on him until he learns a little more respect. You don't have to hurt him, but you do need reinforcement since they are stronger. I see a lot of people putting the chain on incorrectly so that it does hurt them, this is how I do it: through the ring at the left cheek...

Coat Color and Pattern likes and dislikes

What's really cool about minis and ponies is that no matter what your favorite color is they come in that color! And you can find the temperament and conformation you prefer probably in your color. Like Lisa I go by personality first, which is why I have a pony who isn't my favorite color, but...

    Springfield, MO area folks?

Does anyone know of arena trials or CDE in that area?

Coat Color and Pattern likes and dislikes

I never thought I'd get used to blue eyes but I have, and don't notice Jake's eves as much. I have to say that I really do prefer a blue eyed horse have dark pigment (eyeliner) around the eye if it is in a white area. Jake's white side has black eyeliner around the eye. Also not really that...

    Springfield, MO area folks?

I'm interested in combined driving too, and unfortunately where I live now is a great area for combined driving. MO? Not so much as far as I can find.

    Springfield, MO area folks?

Is there anyone on the board competing and living in the Springfield MO area? My folks live there, I went to college there, and there is a little chance that I may relocate there. I have no idea what to expect as I didn't have a driving pony when I lived there, just riding horses.

How do you get whites white again?

I wash my antique lace in dawn dish detergent, diluted. I rinse really well, and then dry flat. If something still looks dingy after washing I will rinse in laundry bluing, but only carefully.

Converting a blind/blinder bridle to an open bridle

I just bought a separate English style mini size bridle. Took reins off, and use it as a driving bridle because I don't use a check rein. I go back and forth between it and the blinker bridle, since if I show I will need to show in blinkers. I wouldn't want to alter or change a good driving...

Can you tell me your experiences with gelding?

Along with being a late dropper some colts have 'shy balls' lol. Some when they are being handled suck them up, and look as if there is only one. I'd wait as long as you possibly can before gelding if he isn't doing anything, and also try to catch a peek when he's relaxed. Get him used to having...
