    Ground Driving through town

That's so cool! What a great training opportunity.

    Fitting Help...

I am a total noob when it comes to what is right and wrong, so I have no opinion on what the judges would like but I personally would love to see a little more variety in the halter classes. I'd love to see a sturdier built horse fitted up like a QH, instead of trying to make it something they...

    Pinto Halter Classes/Pinto Shows

Awesome- as braiding goes I'm pretty good at it. Used to make a living as a show groom, so while I'm not up to full on multiple large horses with hunter braids any more I can make one little pony boy look professional. I'm not going to be doing any in hand classes like hunter or jumper, but...

    Pinto Halter Classes/Pinto Shows

I'm putting this here instead of in the pony section in hopes of getting more answers and folks with experience. If I show my pony at a Pinto show (he will be registered with PtHA soon) can I show him in a plain English snaffle bridle? I have a nice fitting plain bridle and could braid him...

    First time in harness

Thanks Paula! I knew you'd have the answer- I like the wood frame with chain link idea. This will just be the indoor arena, and I think that would last pretty well. I bet there's enough stuff laying around here to make something like that. With the wood frame I can even make a bit of a platform...

Looking for ideas/health question- is this Cushings?

Sadly I don't know how long she's going to be staying. She's on nothing but water, mineral block, and good hay. She's not showing the signs I usually associate with insulin resistance but she's definitely not allowed any sweet feed or green grass. I'd love for her owner to leave her at the barn...

Looking for ideas/health question- is this Cushings?

There's a pony staying for a little while in the barn. I'm not even sure if she's a mini or a Shetland, she looks more mini than Shetland but she's big for a mini. She's said to be about 8 years old, her teeth look appropriate for that age. She came in thin, with a big belly. She has a lot of...

    First time in harness

I broke one of my own rules about steady progression when training- instead of using poles which I need to make and haven't had the time for I went ahead and hitched Jake. He pulled like he already knew what he was doing! He even pulled a passenger around the arena while I walked him. In the...

    proper breeching adjustment

When the traces are firm, no slack, the breeching should hang just barely below the roundest part of the rump. You should be able to get a hand in there between strap and rump. Two inches slack on the breastplate sounds like a little much. Where do your shafts come to on pony's shoulder?

    First time in harness

Jake wore a harness for the first time last night. Nothing has been adjusted to actually fit him, and I deliberately left some straps flapping for debugging purposes. He didn't even flinch at any of it, including the crupper! He's such a good pony. I have to cut down my poles a little to fit...

Anyone recognize this pony??? Registration possibility and opinions..

I don't know anything about who he could be but he's a pretty pony!

    Horse-Related Injuries

Ok, so I can add a new injury to the list. It's kind of funny too, altho at the moment it happened I wasn't laughing. Typical freak accident- bad beasties! I went out to the barn where the Beastie Boys live, they share a paddock that is bordered on one side by the arena wall. For some reason the...

    Advice for restarting a horse?

I'm restarting one, and I've gone at it from the ground up. Started with just grooming, see what happens, then hand walking, then lunging, then ground driving. We've had issues at each point because of his past mistreatment, but he's coming along nicely. We're sort of stalled at ground driving...

gotta love second opinions...i sure do

What great news! So much easier on your body as well as your mind. Best of luck with the procedure!

Not the news I was expecting

Huge hugs to you. A friend went through this, and because of how aggressive her type was and her family history she opted for a mastectomy, insurance wouldn't let her do both or she would have. don't forget to breathe, and keep breathing- you'll figure out a plan and you need that second opinion...

    Minis verses small ponies

I have ponies- two Foundation Classic Shetlands. And they couldn't be more different- one is heavier, shorter, has more body, a slight bulge to the forehead, thick mane and tail, and fantastic movement. The other is slim, refined, flat forehead, light mane and tail, and looks more like a big...

    Where to find marathon shafts?

    I want to know too!

    Fun over; work begins!

I don't have any pics yet, we'll have to work on that. I'm so enjoying all these pics of yours working! Right now we're just in a plain surcingle and open bridle for training, with rope lines, but I think in another week he'll be ready to put to poles.

    The Beastie Boys

LOL! Close enough! It's been my dream to drive ever since I was a kid. I drove trottingbred ponies and raced a little, and drove the tourist surrey at a theme park in Illinois some summers, but even while riding I've always had a fascination for driving. Now that I'm older, broken, and too fat...

Winter is coming! I need new boots (wrong board?)

Ariat Terrain H2o are my favorite winter yuck and muck boots. Western WA in winter is not really my idea of a nice place to live, and I've found it far more bearable when my feet are warm and dry. Plus the Terrains have great support and I can walk all day in them. I also wear them on the field...
