Have any of you tried Fly Predators?

I have used them for years and they have made a huge difference. The flies are absolutely horrible at the neighbor's barn a mile down the road, but I barely get any at my barn. I have to worry about mosquitoes and gnats more than flies in the summer, but that's because I live near a swamp.

She's here! Meet my Aussie <3

She is beautiful! And I recognize the Terra-blue prefix. She is going to be a great dog and you will have so much fun with her!

    Possible stifle locking?

Ok, I will let my farrier know. Our walks are pretty straight, so I'll stick to those then. I talked to the rescue founder today and she said that I should continue what I am doing with the walking, trot poles, and corrective trimming. I guess we're going to wait and see if he gets any better...

    Possible stifle locking?

Thanks so much! Max's Mom, the way you described it is exactly what he does. It seems like it starts up when he stands still for a long period of time, but the more he moves the better that leg gets. How much did the medical procedure cost? I'm guessing jumping would be too hard on him, right...

    Possible stifle locking?

Thank you Marty! I will be contacting the head of the rescue in the morning to tell her what you guys have recommended. And I agree, it is really hard to watch him when it happens, and I really wish I could do something to help him. I think it scares him more than it hurts him, but being as he...

    Mr. Banner :)

Welcome from MN! He is super cute, and have a great time in 4-H! I've had a similar experience with my mare. She was completely wild and abused when I first got her, but with time, patience, and love she has turned into a completely different horse. Best of luck with your boy!

    Possible stifle locking?

I will have to talk to the rescue founder to see if she wants to pursue treatment with him. I'm hoping that the walks will do the trick. He was super overweight and out of shape when he first came to my place. I've been slowly building him up with our walks, but it seems like it still gets a...

    Possible stifle locking?

Thanks so much everyone! I took him out for a walk again today with my neighbors. He was really 'popping' at first and I was almost ready to turn around before it suddenly stopped. I noticed that he doesn't flex in the hock as much as he does with the other leg at the walk. He still seemed...

    Possible stifle locking?

Hi everyone! This winter I took on another rescue mini to foster until he gets adopted. He's super cute, although he was over 100 pounds overweight when I got him. After slowly putting him on a diet (this forum was super helpful for that!) he has lost over 70 pounds and has about 30 to go. He...

    Ideas for Obstacle Trail

Thanks so much everyone! Those ideas are great and I'll definitely be trying them out over my spring break. Does anyone have the links to the YouTube videos? So far I've only found a few from World and Nationals and would love to see more. And targetsmom, I know what you mean with the simple...

    Rabies shot who gives them?

Ours always get rabies shots here in MN. It just isn't worth the risk for us.

    Ideas for Obstacle Trail

I'm planning on going to my first AMHR and AMHA shows this spring and summer and I am coming up with a list of obstacles to practice in preparation for Obstacle Trail. I have all of the basics obstacles and maneuvers written down; it's basically all of the stuff I have encountered at the local...

    In-hand Jumping and Dressage question

If the dirt road isn't rocky or super hard it should be fine, just make sure it isn't slippery. For AMHR, 24" actually is around the competition height in the hunter division. Jumping two feet should be just fine on her legs as long as you work up to it slowly. I actually made a 'miniature cross...

    In-hand Jumping and Dressage question

I do in-hand jumping with my mare and train all of my rescue horses that I foster to do the same. I start out by placing a single ground pole on the ground. I have them go over it several times. I then add several over a period of a week or more, depending on the horse, and work up to 4-6 ground...

What is your favorite part of a horse?

Definitely the eyes, ears, and muzzle for me. I love playing with ears and kissing the soft spot on the muzzle. And I can gaze into those soft brown (or blue) eyes all day.

    Calling All Aussie Lovers

Hey! I have five full size Aussies. At one point we have had eleven! Aussies are genetically programmed to be herding dogs, so if something runs away from them they will go after it and try to herd it. All of our dogs have access to a huge fenced in yard that they can go run in anytime they...

Question for Sansaveres re: Enchanted Hollow Show

I'm really looking forward to going to this show this year! I heard so many great reviews and I'm super excited to actually be able to attend this year. As a heads up, the MN 4-H Mini Horse Project is holding a spring clinic and open fun show on May 11.

Fun personal Q's about your journey with Minis!

How many mini's do you have? 2 - One is my rescue mare that I adopted and trained myself. The other is a rescue gelding that I am fostering until I find him a home. How did you get into mini's? I was riding my big horse down the road with my mom when I was little and my neighbors were out...

    Rescue Auction Update

So glad they went to great homes! I would have loved to take one, but MN is too far away for me and I already have my hands full with another rescue mini I took in to foster.

    Best accomplishment of the year

My highlights of the year included: Successfully adopting out the last rescue mini that I had trained from a massive seizure of miniatures in my state. Having a successful show season with all of the rescue minis that I worked with over the past few years. Building the 4-H Miniature Horse...
