I too had a mare catch a front leg in a haynet and will never use them again for that reason. I just Thank God that we were right there in the barn when it happened. My husband always wears a leatherman and was able to free her instantly. I think the hay bags look like a great idea myself.

I would like to add one thing. I had a mare like this thru several heat cycles. I had the vet out and she had a uti. It was easy to clear up with smz's and time. It surprised me though.
