    New Mama really losing weight..help

I have a mare with a 4 week old colt that is really losing weight. I have been feeding her (in a pan foal can share) 1 1/2 cups of Amanamax (similar to Milk Plus has tons of protein, fat etc) and 21/2 cups of a mixture of alpha oats (12% prot) and all grain (10%) and Vitality (12%+additives)...

    Are fake tails legal?

I know fake tails are legal in the quarter horse association, but since I have never shown a mini, I don't know about in AMHA and AMHR. I have a 3 year old filly that I bought who needed serious work (feet, weight etc). In addition, her tail appears to have been chewed on by other horses. She...

    Work Work Work Work Work......

I'm up at 5, at work by 6:30a.m. and generally don't get home till 6:00 p.m. I have 9 minis and 2 foals, and 5 large horses, 2 dogs, and 4 cats. We are ALWAYS doing some remodeling project. Right now we are drilling holes in our round pen panels to add boards at the bottom so I don't have to...

How tall is this boy? Wish I could do such a great clip job. I still got the bottom half of the legs to do on one of mine.

    Clippy those babies legs!

One of them is definitely tiny enough. He has probably only grown 1 or 2 inches since he was born (17 inches at birth). BUT he seems to always have his "personal parts" dangling. Is this common in little boys? My other colt doesn't do it. Wouldn't want to catch it with the clippers!

    Clippy those babies legs!

Ok, what's the secret? I tried to clip my 10 week old colt the other day, and it was a two man job. Never did get all the legs. Does anyone have any pointers on doing legs? How do you manage to get them all clipped? Didn't even try to do the ears. I have a 4 week old that looks so hot with...

    DNA your animals !!

This whole DNA thing confuses me. I have mares that I purchased that were over the cut off age and had not been DNA'd. My stallion is DNA'd. Now the way I understand it, if any foals that I have are used for breeding they must be DNA'd. Would there be a problem that their mom's were not DNA'd?

My colt is dead..no one to blame but myself

You know even when we try to do the best we can, following knowledge that has been passed down, crap still can happen. Horses are known to be inquisitive and if there is one nail in a 50 acre pasture, that horse will somehow find it. Don't beat yourself up, and thanks for reminding all of us...

    A critque please

Well said Barnbum. I too, don't think she was asking for an "overall critique". I know as a relative "newbie" that I wear my heart on my sleeve as far as my horses are concerned. At this point, I would have a hard time accepting some of the criticism I know I would get from some folks on this...
