While on the topic of pinto patterns....

Thanks for your reply. The silver bay pinto foal also has one blue eye and both parents have 2 brown eyes each - the mare is LWO negative, the stallion is untested, but doesn't look overo to me (see below). I am assuming the blue eye is from splash as the foal is negative for LWO also. Now to...

Open the AMHA Studbook to Hardship AMHR Horses

Jody - that's what I thought. Believe me, I emailed every Director. I've only heard back from 2 so far. JMS - I can tell you from experience that the committees work very hard to research for impact most proposals that go to the membership. HOWEVER, certain Rule Change Proposals must (according...

While on the topic of pinto patterns....

I'm trying to wrap myself around this pinto linked to Extension subject. What can you tell me based on this mare? She is a lab tested silver chestnut tobiano with grey: ee nZ TT Gg aa: Bred to black app - produced tT nZ ee Gg pintaloosa (phenotype, didn't actually test, silver deduced due to...

Open the AMHA Studbook to Hardship AMHR Horses

Jody - Obviously you know that I know that the BOD and EC aren't the ones who will be making the decision. It will be the members in attendance that are voting. I can't be there and wanted the Directors know my opinion, they may bring up some of the points in the discussion prior to the vote...

Open the AMHA Studbook to Hardship AMHR Horses

I was dismayed to hear back from one AMHA director who is against allowing AMHR horses to hardship in - strictly because they think that by limiting the number of AMHA horses the prices will go back up.

Open the AMHA Studbook to Hardship AMHR Horses

I'm not going to get into the discussion of line-breeding or in-breeding. I want to tell you that if you have a strong opinion on this issue, then you need to let your director know. I have emailed all the directors informing them of my opinion. I want to respond to the issue of supply and...

Got my DNA test back for parent qualification

I just look at the part that says the horse is Parentage Qualified. The rest is just DNA stuff. No need to decipher, as far as I'm concerned.

    Training for Liberty

Oh so true! I have spent some time chasing a horse around the arena. Believe me, that will become the longest 1.5 minutes you will ever spend, lol. When it happened to me with a horse that had formerly always done well, it was followed by a visit to the vet which uncovered an underlying...

    Training for Liberty

I don't train the horses for Liberty, either. I just pick the best movers I have and work on being able to catch them when they are loose. They are kept stalled for a few days, so their energy level will be high. Although, the buckskin pinto had been showing in driving throughout the week. The...

    Dormosedan Gel VS. Dormosedan injectable

One of my vets warned me that some vets will dilute the sedatives to make them go farther since they are so expensive. This is done when you get them by the shot. I have had the occasion when a shot doesn't seem to work as well as previous doses. I don't know if this is common, but thought I...

    Stallion Keeping

When not breeding, my stallions are kept in a stall at night and turned out for the day. The exception to that is if I have a show horses that I don't want to get sunfaded, then they are turned out a night and in for the day. Most of my stallions can be turned out together, although I have one...

    AMHA Regional Championship Qualifications

I spoke to AMHA the other day and was told that a horse will need to go to one local show in order to qualify for any of the Regional Championship Shows.

    Training for Liberty

2011 Res National Champion Liberty, Over In both of these cases, I would have preferred that the horses would not stop and sniff, or just stop. The first is of a stallion and he was just being a stallion that day. The second is a yearling colt that was still gaining his confidence in this...

    Dormosedan Gel VS. Dormosedan injectable

It takes about 20-30 mins to work. Give it to the horse and then leave them alone in their stall and keep the area quiet. If I have to clip a young horse for the first time and I think I'm going to have real trouble then I ask my vet for an IM 'cocktail'. She makes up a combo of a couple of...

    Dormosedan Gel VS. Dormosedan injectable

I have used the Dormosedan Gel and really like it. You must wear gloves when handling it as it can be absorbed through your skin. I have found that it doesn't matter if it isn't under the tongue. Anywhere in the mouth has worked for me. Allow 20 mins minimum for it to work. Do not use for...

    What do I test for?

I think you can determine whether or not he's an app by checking his genitals (anus, sheath). If there is mottling there than I think you can be assured that he is an app. If there is no mottling there than I would just check for silver for now. I have seen some silvers with mottling on the face...
