DIY pros I need some ideas

This is a frame of a grey one but with the front end piece of a yellow one. He had a bunch of leftover metal from his contractor boss, and it was good enough to use on this project. The metal adds strength and weight to the shed, but again, is still fastened with in-ground anchors. This...

DIY pros I need some ideas

Here are several pics of the "tent city" we have here. All are used for storing "junk" and work related stuff of hubby's, except for the green one. That one was a good quality one bought specifically for my minis back when I owned/raised them. As you can see, this one is GARBAGE! These yellow...

Also worth mentioning in regard to the portable shelters, whether you are using tarp or metal, be sure to anchor your system down! We use the long corkscrew type anchors attached to the frame of the shelter. It doesn't take much for the winds to catch it, so that is important, and the tarps...

    I Need Some Help

Hi there. Welcome to the forum. Yes, pictures are definitely a good idea, however, if she's only 7 months, there won't be any change in her teats/bag yet. Is she a maiden or experienced mare? That will also make a difference in trying to determine at 7 months if she looks in foal or not. As...

DIY pros I need some ideas

Yes, you most definitely can! Hubby had one that the tarp got all ruined on, and he screwed metal sheeting to the sides and roof. The only tarp now, is the one end. He stores "stuff" for his job in it.

DIY pros I need some ideas

You mentioned in your original post needing something suitable for heavier snow loads. I know of someone in this area that made those shelters with the 16' panels and tarp and a heavy snowfall collapsed it. This was for a longer one, not just the one 16' bent, making a 4' wide (deep) shelter...

    First time clipping: Any Suggestions?

Make sure she is freshly bathed and clean. If you have show sheen, spray her with that and again, make sure she's dry. Use a #10 blade and clip AGAINST the growth of the coat. Move slowly to help avoid tracks, and make sure you keep an eye on the heat of the blade. Hopefully you have a few...

    Face abcess

Another sign of ulcers is rolling onto their back and stay in that feet up position.

    Trainers

There is a Trainer's heading on Breeder Connect, but there is only one listed. If you are looking for a trainer, you can put a want ad on the Wanted forum and people can contact you vis private message, or you can also post a want ad on the Saleboard.

Fort McMurray is more in the northern portion of the province (Alberta), with the majority of the provincial population being more in the southern regions. It is HORRIBLE what those poor people are going through.

    slow shedding normal?

Well you need to tie the minis up near where you are bathing your big horse so they cannot run away. If they are tied safe, go ahead and let them "freak out", since you are right there anyway. Once they realize they cannot run away, they will calm down...they will hear the noise from the hose...

    slow shedding normal?

Like with any other horse, they must be taught to accept it. Start slowly with a light spray on their front feet. As they relax, work up a little higher. Keep moving slowly, but make sure they are accepting it (relaxing) each new place before you move on further.

    New horse

That looks like a "Smart Cinch" type of buckle, and it's made so you run the strap through the top one first, then loop and run it through the bottom one. I never have any trouble with tightening one of these, BUT, I never use the buckle, I always use the tie off method.

Should I prepare for a suprise?

Yes, it sure sounds like you have a foal on the way! If you are gathering some essential foaling items, I would strongly suggest getting some lubricant as well, especially since she's a maiden. Better to spend a few dollars and not need it, than to need it and not have any on hand, since time...

Should I prepare for a suprise?

There is a VERY strong chance she could be in foal, if she was pastured with those colts and a mature stallion. As for the udder development, that is how it starts out. Just slight changes...one day it feels like something, the next, soft again. Is best to try to get into a routine of...

    slow shedding normal?

Yes, it's been my experience that minis are always far slower to shed their winter coats than ponies and big horses. And they just nicely lose their winter hair and they start growing it back in before the other horses do as well!

I was WRONG about Belle wanting a horse friend!

It sounds like Belle knows Lexie is boss mare there, so I really wouldn`t expect her to challenge Lexie over her foal when it`s born. At this point, it may be best to just leave them together, and Lexie will make sure Belle keeps her distance after the foal is born.

    Mare Question!

Are you 100% certain that she is in foal, and not just having a false pregnancy...that bag definitely looks real, but man, I can;t believe she still hasn`t popped, and her belly does not look extremely large. I am not sure how false pregnancies present, but it might be worth having her checked...

Maple Hollow Farms 2016 Foal Watch

WOW, LOVE those neat colors! Any chance the foal will grey? It looks like the vivid newborn colors of a foal that will grey with age. GORGEOUS colors!!
