what color would you call her..try to put her parents pics as well.

I think the mare is a chestnut sabino roan.

Turbo learned a valuable lesson yesterday

You're welcome. I think a person can get quite creative when needed, and I am sure you'll come up with something.

Turbo learned a valuable lesson yesterday

Sorry to hear about Turbo's injury. I have read quite often about these accidents...many times they either die trying to get out, or have to be euthanized due to their severe injuries, so yes, you and Turbo are VERY fortunate that you were right there when it happened. Many say those panels are...

    Haystring braiding

WOW, I have to say, I am surprised they work so well for getting hair out. If that's the case, and they are sort of rough to the horses, I bet you could also do up a big long rectangular panel to wrap around a couple of posts out in the pasture to allow the horses to scratch themselves on it...

    Are we getting close?!?

    That's for sure!!

    Haystring braiding

I have seen pot scrubbers for non-stick pans crocheted with bailer string also! They are round, double-sided sort of hollow if you know what I mean.

Any donkey savvy people out there????

OMG!! What a little BEAUTY! CONGRATULATIONS!!!

    Face abcess

What a great syringe you posted the link to, Jean! I have never seen one like that before, but that is a super thing to have on hand, for sure!! You can also take a tiny drill bit to the opening of a large syringe to drill the opening so that it is a little larger, making semi-solid stuff go...

    Face abcess

What form of antibiotics did the vet give to you? Pills or liquid? If liquid, just fill a (needless) syringe and give it to her like worm past, putting it through the dental space and putting as far back as possible, but making sure not to squirt it directly down the back of her throat, as you...

Any donkey savvy people out there????

CONGRATULATIONS! I can;t wait to see your new baby!! Is mama letting you handle her baby or is she still standoffish? Hope all goes well. I am happy for you!

    Need advice for weaning !

NOW IS the time to get the filly weaned. Mama will probably thank you for it. And I would keep them apart at least for a couple of months. Can you separate them so they are still next to each other, but so filly cannot nurse? That filly cannot be nursing or Mama will not have the colostrum...

    Mare Question!

It sounds and looks like she is very near!

    Face abcess

The funny thing is, with the one I had that was the worst (and still have her) if I put her in cross ties, she would body slam me no matter which side I was standing on. I even tried (had to resort to) lip twitching and ear twitching to get things done on her, and eventually, that did not work...

    Face abcess

I've had horses that were absolutely TERRIFIED of needles too! NOT fun to have them like that!

Also, if you are worried about getting peroxide in her eye while using the syringe, try this. Tie the mare up. Standing beside her, but facing forward, place a rag or cloth of some sort, which you have cupped in your hand. With your right hand, squirt the peroxide into the abscess...

    Are we getting close?!?

Can be...or not! LOL! I swear they read the book of foaling and show us all the signs just to get us going. They may look like they're yawning, but I bet they are actually laughing at us!

Vet checkups, are they needed annually?

I have always vaccinated mine for WNV, EWT and used to do rhino too when I was breeding. The WNV is from mosquitoes, not from other horses.

LP Painted Ponys - 2016 foaling

LOL...I think the discussion has that same effect on many of us!

Vet checkups, are they needed annually?

I have never gotten my horses checked annually. I do my own deworming and vaccinating, and I will very readily call the vet out if I need something done, but don't do a routine, annual exam.
