    New Filly Dwarf????

Reo, With The LWO, you can get a dead foal with two frame parents, but they also pass the gene along, just like the dwarf gene. Yes, the LWO results in a dead foal and the dwarf gene can result in a live foal that someone might think is cute and want to breed it. My concern is that we might...

    New Filly Dwarf????

I have a question... those of you who breed pintos check for the Lethal white gene. If your horse carries it, would you not use it for breeding? I think that most of you still use the horse for breeding. Would not the dwarf gene be the same? I am one of those that truly believes that if...

    New Filly Dwarf????

The side picture tells me that 100% she is a dwarf. Mona, those pictures are a wonderful education for people. As for the owner before, that mare may have never had a dwarf foal before, and she may not ever again. She is a dwarf carrier though and obviously so is the stallion. In this case...

    New Filly Dwarf????

The angle makes it a little more difficult to tell, but the first thing i saw was dwarf. She is thick bodied, short neck, big head, week legs and most of all, her nostrils are on top of her head, rather than forward. As she matures, the characteristics will become more and more apparent. I...

    Venting....you breed 22 inch minis?

That is what i was thinking. They are probably measuring to the middle of the back with their bodies, then measuring their bodies. Anyway, I agree with you, don't sell her.

Dwarfism in Miniature Horses, Information, Education, Advice "help"

There is always a chance of producing dwarfs. When my daughter first started breeding she was attracted to the tiny ones,( though not dwarf)s, one of her mares, from a very well known stallion, produced a dwarf with her first foal. She was never bred again. My lines were quite different from...

question for those of you who switched from horses to minis

I switched from Morgans to Minis about 14 years ago because the older I get, the harder the ground gets. . I am 60 now, broke my back last September and can still handle the Mini's, something I would not have been able to do with the Morgans. one word of caution though, they are addicting.

    Minimally expressed dwarf being bred...advice

You say she is 16? Well, that explains her stupidity and feels that she knows everything. (not all teenagers are like this, but so many are). Maybe you should post on this forum and ask people what the cost is to have a vet assist with a foaling. Then you can send all of the responses to her...

    Hmmm...interesting! Who'd have thought! Dental/Stifle Related Problems

Interesting. I have a 3 year old colt that last fall, all of the sudden had a stifle issue. He was shown as a yearling with no problems. I thought that perhaps something happened during the shipping from MN to Florida. Anyway, it did not get better and I had the surgery done on both stifles...

    Worlds Smallest Horse

Mona, first of all, it was stated that they bought mares for him. Now why would one buy mares for a stud, unless they plan on breeding him? If they were not in it for the money and wanted to just love him, why would they be breeding a horse that has real problems? All of their pictures of him...

    Worlds Smallest Horse

My daughter used to own a well proportioned stud that was 26" at maturity. I will bet that he was every bit as small as Einstein was when he was born. No bigger than a cat.. Einstein is a BIG DISSERVICE to the Miniature horse industry!!!!!!!!! Since I feel they are in it for the money, I am...

Mike Rosauer is coming to North Carolina ~~ Clinic on June 9, 2012

I too would say GO TO THIS CLINIC. I went to one in Florida this year and last year when I was still living in MN, went to one he had in South Dakota. It was well worth it both times!!!!!!!!!

    Suggestions needed...

I pasture breed most of my mares. You can tell by their bags about when they are due. Since there can be over a month spread in acceptable foaling time, it does not matter if you know to the day, as your going to go by bag and body looks anyway.

I would run her with him. You get better results when they are able to pasture breed.

Any color experts still around? Gotta color question

I would say, based upon his unshaved legs, that he is a buckskin. There are many flaxen chestnuts out there that have black hair in their tails and there is no way they could be anything but chestnut, I have a couple of them here. So, i would say the dam is a flaxen chestnut.

    opinions needed on conformation

My choice at this time would be Angel. She seems to have a 45 degree shoulder angle allowing her to be up headed. Seems balanced at this time, though I would like to see a bigger hip. With all the hair on the top, not sure how her top line is or where the tail set really is. I would not be...

Foals born sorrel that turn palomino I would love to see photos

A dark Palomino foal can look like a chestnut/sorrel until dry. They can even look like they have a red mane and tail, but if you look closely at the mane and tail, one can see the white underneath. I have had several born very dark that looked bay or sorrel at birth, but then when dry, turned...

Two year old colt hasn't 'dropped'

Many 2 year old Mini boys like to suck those things up. One minute they may be there, the next they are gone. I have known of some that would have both down, till the vet came to geld, and all of the sudden there is only one or none. Vet goes and a couple of hours later, the colt has two easy...

Thoughts/Experiences with Getting "Older" Mare in Foal

Parmala, The one thing I would be worried about sending my older mares out for breeding is the expense and the chance that they may not conceive. I said I have a 24 year old and for the last two years she has not conceived, or reabsorbed the foal. The stallions are on my farm. Still, with...
