    Hiking with your mini

I haven't taken the horses on any 'trails' for a while but we do go on walks up and down our street. The dogs drive me insane though! They are behind fences, most of the time, but it's just the barking that does not stop that kind of spoils the nice country walk!

    Having Doubts

I can really relate - I had Bailey as a weanling, on his own for about 12 months before I got another. Bailey was my best buddy. I spent as much time as possible with him and was lucky enough to have him on my small property with me. When i 1st got Bailey, I didn't even consider a 2nd mini...

    Merlin Mini Hoof trimmer

Did you see the youtube video I had just linked on the 1st page showing Bailey and Willow being trimmed? It has a safety guard to protect your fingers but gloves are still needed. I have never used it on the horses myself, hubby does that, but I did have a play around on a piece of small...

    Merlin Mini Hoof trimmer

Yep, we use the Merlin on Bailey and Willow, and now also Dasher the rescue. When I say 'we', I mean my husband. He does all of the trimming. His wrists aren't working so well these days and was looking for something that would help with the pain of trimming. He kept saying 'there has to be...

    My horses aren't very vocal

Oh how sad for you. Bailey, Willow and now Dasher never shut up! They all try to out do each other. They call out ech time they hear the gate 'click', when they see my car pull up after work, when i call out to them. I just LOVE hearing them talk. I can tell each of them apart too, they all...

Your experience (if any) with slow hay feeders?

I bring my fatties in from the back field each late afternoon and keep them close to the house overnight. I often fill up their hay nets with the smaller holes in them. Takes them ages to eat through all the hay and I feel good knowing that they have something to 'work on'. I just raced out...

New Mini owner in WA State

G'day, welcome from Australia! I also came from a BIG horse background and I still miss riding. My dear friend has riding horses so I can still get my fix anytime I want. The thing I noticed right away about minis is how small everything is! Little feet, little halters but HUGE hearts. My...

    Hairy legs

You mean a 'driving' pair? Never thought of that! Yes they would actually. Now that Dasher is starting to gain weight and look healthier, it's getting harder to tell the two of them apart! My husband calls Dasher 'the other Willow'. Not sure how Willow would go driving though. She is quite...

My little Stallion playing with his Gym Ball

How cute was that!? I have a ball like that too for my horses but my property isn't on flat land so the ball just rolls down to the bottom of hill.

    Playing with the Canon

    Dasher my rescue

Sorry for the confusion there! Here in Australia, we have miniature horses and miniature ponies. To keep it simple, mini horses are much more refined while the mini ponies are like your older style mini horses with a heavier build. This is a description of a mini pony taken from Australian...

    Dasher my rescue

Thanks guys. We still have a way to go with Dasher. It's hard to see in the photos, but he has no topline, his spine is still visible. His muscle tone is starting to improve now which is good to see. His hips are filling out nicely now too. He should have never been in such poor condition...

    Getting Closer

I had only 1 mini for a while, Bailey. He seemed fine on his own for that period of time as he had 'horse company' at the back fence. I really wanted Bailey to have a buddy but hubby wasn't too keen so I didn't push the issue. I fell in love with Bailey's 1/2 sister, Willow as soon as she was...

    Hairy legs

Bailey won't shed out these 2 patches of hair on his back legs! Crazy little horse and his hairy legs! And some other photos of the horses doing what they do best...eating! Willow is looking really beautiful She has the most naturally shiny coat during summer, she glistens...
