Robin, is this the something special that I asked you about? Having to do with a certain collection? If that's the case Leya it is from me and it is outside of the Secret Santa thing.

Marsha, it was my pleasure! Merry Christmas my friend!

    Adequan

That's approx. $15 a shot, I would say well worth it for your equine friend! Almost a 2 year supply at one a month for $300. If you try one a month during the colder months and every other month during the warmer months it may last longer.

    Adequan

Marsha, try one a month for a bit and then try going to every other month. It used to be cheaper if you purchased the entire box of four doses rather than one vial at a time.

    My first colic

I have had my share of colics over all the years I have had horses and ran a boarding and training stable. We owned one arab gelding that came from a very poor situation and he would colic at the drop of a had. First symptom for him was standing at the back of his stall and pawing. We always...

    Adequan

We used adequan on some big horses years back. Once a month seemed to fit the bill for most of the geriatric patients.

How many use heated water buckets??

we have used heated buckets for several years in our sub freezing climate. They have been a life (and work) saver. We have a couple of 5 gallon buckets but most are 2 1/2 gallon buckets. Our outside troughs are also heated with a bottom style element. Wouldn't be without them!

    Secret Santa HINT THREAD!!!!

I gave my hints but darned if I can remember what they were. We collect spoons (you know the little souvenir kind), I love to quilt and I am working on our family tree. We have a yellow lab and five miniature horses some are A and some are B sized. Where we live it is 5 degrees out this...

    Showmanship Halter

I am in the market for a leather showmanship halter with silver. I have found several, actually ordered one but ended up returning it because it was way to small. So curious as to where everyone is purchasing them. I have seen some really nice ones on the live feed from AMHR nationals.

Oh my, what have we gotten ourselves in to? :)

There is usually an age at which a child is allowed to handle a stallion in the show ring. I am thinking that age is 16 but you might want to check into that. A gelding would probably be the wisest choice to start with, fine the right one and they will have a mellow and even temperament that...

    What stallion behavior is acceptable?

I had a stallion that I ran with my mares and geldings. He was about 2 when I put him in with them, yes I intended to breed the mares. I was NOT doing so to sell them they were for my own personal enjoyment. He had however never been with a mare or bred a mare so there was a lot of trial and...

First time clipping my mini - need advice.

I agree on Northern Tails for blade sharpening he does awesome work and has a great turn around time as well!

First time clipping my mini - need advice.

While I will say I do agree with the whole bath first thing, it is sometimes not practical the first clip of the year here in Montana. Weather is unpredictable and cools quickly and the long coats simply do not dry quickly enough and the horses get cold. So the first clip of the year I realize...

    Clippers (again!) Oster users?

I have Oster A-5, two pairs for two speed and my old old old original single speed ones. I love them. I keep blades well sharpened and I rotate them when I am body clipping. I also have a pair of the double K cable drive. I love them too. Each has it's purpose in a barn and if they are a...

    Is this her getting closer?

I am pretty sure marestare has a forum area for folks with no camera's. And reading some of the posts on any of their forums can give you some hints that you might be able to apply to your mare. I will agree as they get heavier in foal they have less room for feed so smaller more frequent...

    Golf Cart Exercise?

We did this at Nationals in Reno one year, we wrapped the leadrope around the roof support and held it, we didn't tie it. That way in a pinch we could let go of the horse, although we never had too. Actually took a passenger and managed to take four over to be measured at one time but using...

    Growing the mane

An old cowboy trick was to fill the area with vaseline and then rub dirt into it. The dirt will travel by gravity to the bottom of the vaseline saturated mane and help to weight it over. Washes out pretty easily with a little liquid Dawn dish detergent. Doesn't damage the mane.

    Sharpening Clipper Blades

Northern Tails - excellent job on my blades and will be sending more to him when they are ready! Got the tip here and have been very pleased with his work.
