    Cookie from Southwest Georgia

Welcome to the group - Cookie sure is cute & great that your daughter is able to handle him already … like with any equines start with basics & build from there. I think he’d make an excellent driving VSE (very small equine!). Most importantly is to have fun along the way

    A problem horse

I’d get vet out to check it’s nothing physical eg hearing, eyesight etc, or pain related. Then go through process of elimination … could he be bored, need to be out where he can’t access the other animals when loose etc. I agree with then getting advice to have exercises to do with him & maybe...

Thanks @DB Minis I will shave some of his tail from underside of his dock & hope that works. He has such a beautiful tail but looks awful with dried poop through it 😢

new member intro and interested in guide horses

Welcome to this group Josh & my mini Citi certainly would never be a reliable ‘guide’ he just doesn’t have the right character BUT it does seem you have the right connections to a couple of miniature horse trainers specifically to become guides … I would suggest using their expertise to the...

    Keeping tails clean

I have the same problem with my gelding not lifting his tail up when pooping & his tail is always yucky! He has a really, really thick tail that is banged short - wonder if his tails too heavy for him to lift to poop or if he’s just a lazy little 💩er!!!?

Newbie shopping for mini driving bits (Canada)

Awe I’m so jealous that you live in beautiful NS … I’m lucky enough to visit a few times a year to home & dog sit (6 dogs) on the beautiful shoreline over looking Lunenburg Bay. It truly my heaven on Earth even if it’s for a few visits each year! So glad to hear that you’re not only living...

Newbie shopping for mini driving bits (Canada)

Hi, welcome to this group, I’m fairly new to group too, also in Canada (Cambridge, Ontario 🇨🇦), new to cart driving & I also have a VERY chunky mini who measures 37” (FYI minis are measured from last mane hair to ground - my mini has non-existent 2”wither). I have a cart but think my guy might...

Thanks for link DB - I’ll check out DIY Obstacles 🙏 I was going to use the pool moonless to cover the crank mechanism & webbing that holds the tarp cover to the frame base -then use electrical tape over the pool noodle. Now I think a lot it I might cover tape with with anti-cribbing paste to...

I’m hoping there’s enough room for him not to get his hoof/leg caught in crank/webbing but I have managed to find a pool noodle (didn’t think I’d find one this time of year but a liquidation store near where I’m farm sitting had boxes & boxes or them!). Then I’ll electrical tape around the...

Heading to barn shortly with two large bags of chopped horse straw. Yes, I’m going to remove dry leaves from inside shelter as you suggest & pack them around the outside - thanks for suggesting this Mary 🙏 I am also picking up 4 6’ 4”x4” posts to lay across the frame to hold it down in high...

Thanks so much for the response - I will remove the leaves from inside the shelter & put in a couple of bags of straw (need to get bagged straw as I have to transport them in my small car! I help a cat rescue that provides outdoor shelters for colony cats & they’re all filled with straw that...

Lol I have to ‘bang’ Citi’s tail as it gets so thick & heavy that he doesnt lift it up when he poops & also it grows so fast that it drags on the ground & picks up everything in his paddock & around barn like a sweeping brush lol! I’m spring I roach his mane too as that too is thick & heavy...

    Boarding single mini challenges?

Hi Robert, I board my mini at a local barn that has total of 22 ponies consisting of welsh, GSP’s, yearlings, 2year olds & broodmares. My mini has a small paddock to himself but prior to me getting him he was turned out as a companion to yearlings & 2 year old warmbloods. Where he’s boarded now...

Hi … I am in process of getting Citi’s harness & cart adjusted & eventually see how he does pulling the cart (& me!). We’re very lucky that he’s boarded at a very experience barn where owners drive their Welsh ponies (single, double & quad!). I have never driven a cart before so I’m getting...
