My daughter and I were taking pictures of one of our colts today and my daughter noticed this colts eye color and commented to me about it.

I hadn't even noticed it.

Anyway, i don't know if it is unusual or not, so thought i would ask you guys.

The colt has 1 blue eye with a dark mark on it and the other eye is dark with a slight bit of blue in it.

I have horses with a dark eye and the little bit of blue, but i hadn't seen one the opposite, (blue with dark in it)

What do you think?

I had a colt that had one eye like that, the other one was brown w/a blue spot, sort of reverse in each eye.

Anyway, it's neat and great pics!

It's fine. My gelding has the same thing. I think it's called a "chip" eye when it's blue with dark flecks in it. I wouldn't worry about it.

I think they are beautiful. One of my mares has 1/2 a blue eye. She is a black and white tobiano(spelling?) with sabino roaning.

Is your little guy a pinto?

Debbie

I have a sorrel sabino tovero with a dark eye and then just about the same blue eye as your little one. I am registering him with the Blue Eyed Horse Association. If you want to do that, I could email you the form. He's got beautiful eyes though!

I think its beautiful. Love the picture.

If I am not mistaken, I think they are called heterochromatic eyes.

I love the first picture :aktion033: :aktion033: We don't have any horses with eyes like that, but the horse sure has nice looking eyes to me. We have some with one blue and one brown or both blues or both brown.

I had never heard of that before, that is interesting.

I know the dark eye with a speck of blue is pretty common....but I've never had one with a blue eye with such a large dark speck like this.

I thought it was a little different.

I've always known them as 'partial blues' Our new black and white tobiano mare has one blue eye and the other is a partial blue..

I Love blue eyes also, we had a filly that had eyes like that, partially dark in certain areas than others and another horse that had a half blue eye and the other half of the same eye was brown, right down the center, was different looking for sure, then another mare I had one eye that was dark brown and the other eye was ice blue.

: GREAT PIC, CINDY!

I'd call it "down-right" gorgeous!

Stick it on your avatar for a few weeks! Shoot, send it to Equisite!

Stay warm, my friend!

It's actually called a hectochromatic eye. One of our mares had those eyes & threw blue eyes all the time. One of our brown eyed mares, bred to a blue eyed stud, produced hectochromatic eyes on both sides -- bottoms were brown, tops were blue. Was pretty neat.

Our black pony mare has one brown eye and one half blue and half brown. Sure is striking. Love those blue eyes!
